Since it has come to my attention that Squash is not a yellow vegetable in the UK. :) and I've been told that there are some foods not available in the UK, please help make this forum American/UK friendly by adding any differences (copy and paste the list as it grows, please) that you may see between the American and UK English understanding of food words.

Thanks,

Peg

Squash = yellow vegetable in USA

no, orange squash is a veg? i supose u could have this argument with a tomato, although tomato is a fruit alot of people think its veg. if any of you ever watched Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstalls (river cottage) he explained how to tell the diffrence between fruit and veg, i will see if i can dig it out so i can explain to you all

Zucchini=courgette

Eggplant=Aubergine

You can get butternut, kobochi squash (sp) and acorn squash usually. Eating pumpkin is also a new thing for the English.

Summer squash=Marrow

Daikon=Mooli/Muli (only available in Halan shops ususally) or in Holland Vit Vortel or white carrot.

It is also hard to find burdock root here.
