Second Wave

Recommended Posts

Looks like a second wave is closer than we think, especially up in northern England. Do you think they will do a full scale lockdown again?

Not with the furlough scheme coming to an end.

I seriously hope there isnt a second wave thats lock down worthy. My parents are in their 50s amd smokers. Theyll have to work - as said anove furlough scheme is coming to an end.

Ive only just overcome the depression from being on lock down - seeing my kids that are a fair distance away, regular exercise, being cramed with people who grate on esch other.

And obviously gym closure. Hopfully as saod above- let the people die. By this k mean the ines ive seen craming them selves in pubs to drink, raming out trains to go to the beach. fu**ing idiots i swear.

Edit - was an answer to a question as to whether another “full lockdown” will happen. It won’t.

.... and it shouldn’t happen. I just hope they shut down non essentials  such as  gyms and leisure centres for another 6 months at least or until a vaccine is found.

Why do you hope that?

Gyms aren’t a necessity.... they shouldn’t have been opened. They’re a breeding ground for disease and drug users.... which I hate.

I agree. Shut them all, but make sure mine lets just me in

I believe a second wave is  possible.

Will the government acknowledge it ? probably not , too much of a political hot potato .

I foresee a series of ineffective "local shutdowns"

As if shutdowns can be managed "locally" : I mean what does that actually mean?  in our country where a large amount of our population  travel reasonable distances just to get to work.

Just another debacle  in this Government`s reaction to this Pandemic.

Was it really such a debacle though?

What should they have done differently apart from maybe go into lockdown a couple of weeks earlier and if they had would it really have made much of a difference to the death rate in 2020?

I think it’s inaccurate to judge the UK’s success based on the number of deaths.  London was the epicentre of covid in the UK and I think it’s fair to say Europe but it’s quite unlike any other European city in terms of ethnic diversity of residents and visitors/tourists and also the sheer size of the population crammed into a relatively small area.

I had to pass through areas of east London during the height of the lockdown and high street shops had queues over 100m long and 4/5 deep.... none of whom were respecting the 2m rule. The govt were keen to let people to take responsibility and follow guidelines but so many people didbt..... however I live just outside of London in a reasonably affluent area and pretty much everyone respected the 2m rule and followed guidelines to the letter.

Even today, I’d say I saw 2 people out of an entire high street full of people not wear a face covering inside a shop...... east London, maybe 50% chose not to in certain areas!

I can still see certain cultures not adhering to govt guidance.... is it a coincidence that Leicester’s white population is a minority? Maybe.... maybe not but it’s certain consistent with what I’ve seen.

How are the govt supposed to deal with that?

"Was it really such a debacle though?"  js77

Took far too long to acknowledge the threat in the beginning.

Stating that " Face masks are ineffective"  then once they had sorted enough out they suddenly decide that face masks are effective.

In sufficient PPE for front line workers.

" NHS staff only need one set of PPE for a 12 hour shift"  Ridiculous ( Gloves are changed after every procedure, often masks as well.)

Sending the elderly back to retirement homes from hospital without testing ( or before test results were known)

I could go on...

There is a catalogue of errors and misinformation that needs to be addressed.

This Government has spent more effort in covering it`s arse than it has actually spent addressing the pandemic.

Well of course that's their job, then they'll spin it and put the blame on the public, very predictable.

I think that we can all agree that Boris and his cabinet are completely out of their depth.

And no, I'm not a Labour or lib dem supporter.

I think ANY cabinet would have been out of their depth. These are unprecedented times and mistakes will undoubtedly be made.

I agree that there’s been lots of ‘backtracking ‘ and as I mentioned , the govt were clearly slow in imposing lockdown but I’m not convinced this would have made much difference.

The more I hear the more I believe that apart from the initial lockdown , which was crucial for not crippling the NHS , these PPE precautions , especially about the necessity for face coverings is bullsh1t.. ie, gyms, pubs, restaurants are excluded but they must be worn in shops!!

Until a vaccine is found I think herd immunity is the way forward. Govts across the world know this but they obviously want to install confidence in people to get on the high street and back to work to save the economy from total collapse. That’s why face coverings are being pushed. Again, this isn’t unique to British govt guidelines.

France and Spain are spiking again and have had strict face covering rules in place for many weeks. It doesn’t work.

The ‘debacle’ if you want to call it that, is international. Only strict socialist/communist countries seem to have a handle on it. This is the  price of Capitalism.....freedom to do pretty much what you want and not follow guidelines, which is what is being seen in the UK.
