Status of COVID-19

As of 19 March 2020, COVID-19 is no longer considered to be a high consequence infectious diseases (HCID) in the UK.

The 4 nations public health HCID group made an interim recommendation in January 2020 to classify COVID-19 as an HCID. This was based on consideration of the UK HCID criteria about the virus and the disease with information available during the early stages of the outbreak. Now that more is known about COVID-19, the public health bodies in the UK have reviewed the most up to date information about COVID-19 against the UK HCID criteria. They have determined that several features have now changed; in particular, more information is available about mortality rates (low overall), and there is now greater clinical awareness and a specific and sensitive laboratory test, the availability of which continues to increase.

The Advisory Committee on Dangerous Pathogens (ACDP) is also of the opinion that COVID-19 should no longer be classified as an HCID.

The need to have a national, coordinated response remains, but this is being met by the government’s COVID-19 response.

Cases of COVID-19 are no longer managed by HCID treatment centres only. All healthcare workers managing possible and confirmed cases should follow the updated national infection and prevention (IPC) guidance for COVID-19, which supersedes all previous IPC guidance for COVID-19. This guidance includes instructions about different personal protective equipment (PPE) ensembles that are appropriate for different clinical scenarios.

So the hospitals are not getting over filled with new patients then, it's all made up, ok:confused1:

You are aware the symptoms are almost identical to influenza,  and this still is flu season, in addition, the media has been pumping this out on the airwaves non stop for nearly 3 months in turn elevating people's hypochondria ?

Have you seen the news and what’s happening in hospitals? Italy had to make warehouses to treat people with covid 19. They won’t keep you in hospital because you think you’ve got it. They will test you for it and people more than ever are dying in hospital beds unless they just thinking that there dying and faked there deaths aswell

Oh dear.

So because the death rate from Coronavirus has been found to not be as great as say, Ebola, everything is a conspiracy?? This is still a highly infection disease but the government has been clear - for most it will be a mild disease. But because the numbers who will get it are vast, the small percentage who will suffer serious effects or even die, are still a very large number.

Removing the classification also simply means that cases can be managed safely in local hospitals rather than having to be transferred to HCID centres.

You haven’t found a smoking gun here @Ken Hutchinson and it would be good if you gave prominence to the guidance your posts and the HDIC page points us to:

You're bat s**t crazy. My Mrs works at a local college and she is partly responsible for their international students. She called one yesterday to make sure she got back to Italy ok. She described the Italy as a war zone. There's not many funerals taking place. The army are going around to collect the dead.

So I'd say this isn't the normal flu season.

Yeah yeah! It’s all fake and a conspiracy lol that’s why Excel arenas has opened as a hospital to serve 4000 patients and 25 doctors died in Italy treating patients with Covid 19!

Listen to Chris Whitty, he is England's top Doctor who appears on TV with Boris Johnson, he said its not as bad as a normal winter or even a bad one.

He's incentivising people to commit to social distancing. No one has debated the fact that if social distancing is effective this thing will be over quicker - if we cut the infections down from an average 2.5 per person, the suggestion is the infection rate will drop by 95%. Let's hope he's right and people do their bit!

Its like this guy professor Neil Ferguson director of the MRC centre for global infectious disease analysis at imperial collage London,at first he said 250,00 people could die in the UK, then he changed it to around 20,000, now he has come out and said it will be quite a bit lower than 20,000, the bloke has cause all sorts of panic when he needn't have.

The people saying its just a cold and a conspiracy etc are clearly the ones spreading it still... people are actually dying because of these ignorant morons

My 25 year old son was in hospital in January with all the symptoms of covid 19, he had been ill at the start of December, picked up a bit over Christmas, but he was still not 100%, start of January he was bad again, in the end he was admitted to Hospital by ambulance, they kept asking him if he had just come back from any exotic places, about 5 different doctors asked him this , it was as if they did not believe him, then they kept asking him if he has any birds, they put a face mask on him right away, they were very concerned about him, he had 3 x rays and a cat scan, they took so many blood samples his arms were full of bruises, he was on oxygen for 4 days, and 2 different antibiotics in a drip along with fluids for 4 days, in the end they said it was double pneumonia, which he has had before many years ago, but this was different I do believe there is something out there, but not what they are saying it is.

Depends on whether you believe the consensus of the world's leading scientists and health experts or some daft fvcker on YouTube.

PS. Hope your son is doing better now.
