Grip thickness

Generally thicker bars are harder to grip, hence the existence of Fat Gripz for extra forearm work. (Or the budget version of using pipe lagging.)

It depends on handsize and exercise the bar is being used for.

I prefer slightly thicker bars, around 30-32mm as the usual bar doesn’t quite suit my handsize.

If using dumbells with thin handles for pressing, I actually find it painful to the point I’ll not use them. Laterals are hard also if the can’t squeeze  my hands tight enough to prevent the dumbells feeling loose in my hands.

Elieko make different diameter bars to suit men and women.

Obviously when looking at thick grips, it’s completely different thing altogether.
