Hi,

decided i'm going to start the bill starr 5x5 tomorrow, but i need some advice on the starting weights to use.

I've never really done the 1-5 rep range before so i'm not to sure of my current 5 rep maxs, but they should be looking something like this:

Bench - 60kg x 5

Squat - 70kg x 5

Deadlift - 95kg x 5

So my question is what sort of starting weights should i be using in comparison to these in order to ensure i dont stall early in the program?

Also, what are the opinions on adding pull-ups or dips to the routine?

cheers

Take it easy, you need to give yourself somewhere to go, it is a 12 week programe so start a little lighter than you think you need to, you dont want to be struggling at week 6-7, because you rushed into it.

Personally, what I do is hit my 5rep maxes in week 4 - following week 4 - hit new pbs

For example - for your squat

Week 1 - 55

Week 2 - 60

Week 3 - 65

Week 4 - 70

Week 5 - 75

Week 6 - 80

And so on, until you stall!!

Bill starr madcows tells u to ramp up in 10 percent - but wa I do and what I would recommend for you is

Week 1 35; 40; 45; 50 ; 55

Week 2 40 : 45: 50 :55 :60

Week 3 45; 50 ; 55 : 60 :65

Week 4 50; 55; 60 ; 65; 70

And so on ;0)
