i know a lot of BB's will have a bottle of wine the night before a comp, as it dehydrates you, giving a more ripped effect and better definition. However dehydration is definitely not a safe method for general cutting!

I actually wrote a paper on red wine, but it was more to do with lowering LDL cholesterol (bad cholesterol).

Simply drinking a few glasses a week will lower your chances of having a heart attack. It's to do with the skins on RED grapes. White wine doesn't lower cholesterol to the extent that red wine does.

So there is another excuse to drink a glass. However, the smallest bit of alcohol stops glycogen re-uptake, so bare that in mind!

Glycogen is the second energy source we use during exercise. (think of it as using carbs primarily, [can be sourced from protein via gluconeogensis]).

So if we eat say bowl of rice, well were not really going to be topping up are glycogen stores because alcohol inhibits its reuptake.

So.... during exercise, we wont have as much disposable energy from glycogen.
