This is really doing my head in!

My laptop keeps asking me to activate windows and i dont know what to do. I spoke to a bloke on the phone, he said that they had done something with windows when they fixed the motherboard in it and this is why i need to activate it again. He said there is a activation code underneath the laptop which i need to type in but because i use my laptop all day every day this code has worn away the bloke said the only way to sort this out is i have to buy a whole new operating system but surely this cant be the case. So i phoned microsoft who said i need to get advent to send me out a cd and gave me the number to ring but everytime i ring it its a wrong number or sumat.

Anyone have the number for advent or another suggestion to fix it?

control panel/system & security/system....Windows activation product ID code should be bottom of page. :thumbup1:

If you had windows pre-installed and have since restored your computer to factory start up you may be unable to varify windows as genuine. A bug that microsoft have failed to amend yet! :cursing:

You could try turning your User Account Control guidence off, but, this should only be done by advanced computer literate user!! :)

It would sound like a 'less than genuine' copy of windows was installed when they looked at your laptop.. If the motherboard was swapped then a fewsh install of Windows would 99% of the times be required and shops are not going to purchase a £50-£150 operating system everytime they do a minor £20 repair etc

Now....... there are a number of options..

1. buy a new OS but this seems unecessary as you appear to have one aleready, albiet faded underneath

2. try and locate the Advent invoice as proof of purchase and maybe contact your laptop supplier

3. go down the route of aquiring a *cough* activation patch which 'fools' Windows into thinking its genuine..and no more nags..

Entirely up to you and depends on how much of a good upstanding citizen you are.
best way every time mate

but if its xp then i can send you a keygen and a program to put they key in and activate it all

if its vista or windows 7 then just search for the activation patch as said above
