Lost my Blackberry curve yesterday morning. Within 15 mins some wee worm had already tossed the sim card (phone was off).

Got the sim card blocked and asked Vodafone to blacklist the phone. I already had a pin code to even get into the phone.

Any ideas what this entails? Will it be completely off? or will they still be able to use it in some capacity or even get it unblocked?

specialist markets will get the phone unlocked for about a £10-15, but it depends on how secure the phone is, and how many diffrent password formats there were i belive.

i think they would have to restoe firmware. basicly they can get it to work but all your personal information on the phone should be wiped..

if you have any mobile unlocking places by where you live pay them a visit and even better if you have serial number of your phone and mention to them as well as the police whats happened. also ask at the mobile unlocking places how they would unlock and unbar a mobile....sry for your loss it sucks big time

sorry to hear that, not need to worry about your seem card as they won't be able to use it once blocked, for the device, there are lots of tools on the net to reverse to factory settings passing through code and else but they really need to know what they are doing.

it might even turn up through the post or something, my gf phone did turn up at her mother house with a note. at that time it was a bit freaky but it did happened.

They blacklist the IMEI and it isn't easy to get around that.

Most likely will end up on Ebay still blacklisted and somebody will buy it thinking its a bargain, only to get shafted.

They'll can the IME number on the black market and give it a new one. Any dodgy phone shop will get it up and running for you.

Very easy nowadays mate with the software thats available.

I know of a shop where if you pay him the right ££££ he'll do anything to your phone.

Got new one in the day. £30 excess. Its not really the phone as im insured. Its all the numbers I won't be able to get back, things like that. I also have about a half dozen pictures of my willy from earlier in the year when I had to show a doc because over the last year or so it seems to have developed some kind of waistline/hour glass thing going on. So since I lost it close to home I can expect them on the internet before to long :lol:

Phoned the bus company lost and found, and they got back to me saying nothing was handed in. Duno if I trust them though, kepy asking my if I was insured in that. Stupidly told them that I was and that I was getting another one delivered. Obviously any guilt they'd feel about pinching it went right there.

At the end of the day, unless the battery fell out or something when I dropped it (which I don't think would have happened), the phone was going to answer phone within like 15 mins, so someone has well done the off with it.

Blackberry's are different to phones, if it had a password on it and they enter it wrong 10x then it will wipe the handset completly the pics will go too - if they were on device memory and not memory card - if its on the card they will have pics of your c0ck...nice.

As for the device itself, they will be able to use it as a phone but not a blackberry for email and BBM etc. The device uses a PIN for this (not the same as a SIM pin) which is unique and held in a database (either RIM or Voda) if it was set up for BIS (Blackberry Internet Service) then it will be associated on one of Vodafones servers and they can block it.

So yeah they can use it but not as a blackberry, even if it is unblocked as the service is held on a server and not the phone if that makes sense?

I get you, mate. So when they black listed the phone, would the pics will prob be gone to if on the phone and not the sim? Tbh mate I cancelled the sim, but the phone went to voicemail even before I did that when I phone it, so I assume they ditched the sim and kept the phone - everyone knows the sim will only last a couple of hours before being cancelled anyway.

I want them to have a minimal pleasure from my phone as possible so some of that sounds good :thumbup1:
