Ive used fast acting insulin post work out ie humalog or nov rapid and that has allways been 10 grams of carbs per 1iu of fast acting carbs post workout then 10 grams of complex carbs per 1iu an hour later after the first carb consumption this has been for fast acting insulin as stated but what is the rule of thumb for lantus long acting insulin as I want to lower my carbs slightly.

Has a slight peak at the 4 and 8 hour mark. Keep an eye on your bloods if your new to slow slin.

Not enough to worry if your awake and eating normally, but if you've skipped food or sleep.
