Following on from the Alcoholic BBers topic I was just wondering what you all do as a mental release from the daily grind of life and the problems within society?

Or you do just always live in the real world and face the monotony and normality of life's issues?

Fell running and get lost in my thoughts.
Steven King books and get lost in other worlds.
Kickboxing I switch off for an hour and focus on pad work/work on combos/sparring.
Climbing, switch off from the world again and get lost in the moment.
Recently started growing some veg in my garden as well few tomato plants, beets, carrots, peas so being outside more in spring/summer has been great.
Also very slowly learning to play acoustic guitar, armature at best and still on open chords/few power chords.

Needles to say my rock and roll lifestyle is on fire

im too crazy to tell you what reality is bro
Paying rent/mortgages/bills/taxes, going to work everyday, dealing with bullshit Govt politics, raising kids, family issues, never really having enough money to do all the things you want to do and buy all the things that would make you happier, planning ahead for the future, living with your mistakes etc etc etc

That's reality Bro and the list is endless....

You know what, this is going to sound cheesy as ****, but I am only just starting to appreciate how forums like this were that escape for a long time for me. Of course I’m talking back when there were hundreds of posts a day.
I could come home from work, and slip into this virtual world where I could bitch about stuff that had happened during the day with generally like minded people, without worrying about any real world rammifacations or repercussions like pissing people off that you saw on a day to day basis and making real life difficult.

There is a degree of anonymity about forums that just doesn’t carry over to Facebook and instagram, and I‘m not talking about hiding behind anonymity hurling abuse at people. I mean people’s inhibitions lower and they are generally more relaxed and less worried about sharing their opinions - do that now on Social Media and you’ll get a million people from all over the world telling you what c***t you are.

It’s not really until now that I realise quite what an escape, and even a therapy these places are/were. Remember back then social media was non existent, so you’d check in for an hour a day, catch up and then you’d probably be done till the next day. Now we operate on this basis of checking for replies on the hourly I am not so sure it’d work the same waY?

Nothing cheesy about that and 100% agree with all of it (y)

I've really missed having somewhere to offload my thoughts and (generally) not get too badly judged or criticised by others. I don't use Facebook anymore but there is no way I would want to share all this deeply personal stuff with my old school/college friends, family members, and work associates/business contacts etc.

I like to get stuck in to a decent book, Keto! It's not so much an escaping reality tactic but reading is good for the brain mate, also relaxes me before sleep. Better quality sleep leads to better cognitive function and all sorts of other good stuff, give it a go!

Currently re-reading Filth by Irvine Welsh, it's brilliant.

I get pissed. Most nights of the week atm. I’m currently unemployed and loving it. With that said I don’t actually have any reality to escape.
Get yourself a nice Venezuelan rum!

Diplomatico is the one

Coke, ice and fresh lime goes really well with it

Reality can be harsh. I use kratom, phenibut, ghb, weed, masturbation to help distract the mind and cope. The ultimate though is having completed a great workout. Unfortunately, i seem to have crippled myself somewhat and am only doing any kind of (upper body only) workout once a week at best. Thankfully i have plenty of the above mentioned substances to stop me going crazy. I need to cut the masturbation down though as it's recently been getting me late for work.

I find getting out in nature is massively helpful. For me that's mostly getting in the sea whether it's cliff jumping, free diving, surfing. I do like riding trails/ green lanes on my mountain bike and cycling quiet roads on a road bike too. I have a love hate relationship tinkering with cars. Just about finished respraying my old Merc, pimp my ride style, which has definitely been character building haha. A good weights session is obviously good too but I find surfing the elixir to washing away the many rubbish aspects of being an "adult" and the beautiful thing is there's so many forms of wave riding that even if you're hurt you can usually get out in the waves and just bodysurf or bodyboard if stand up surfing isn't happening temporarily.
