For lots of reasons seeing a dentist is important - and not just the obvious one of not losing your teeth! Lot of research now linking gum disease to dementia. My dentist probably saved my life by getting me referred urgently to hospital when all I thought I had was an ulcer on my tongue but he recognised it as cancer. Definitely try and get an NHS one - it'll save you a fortune!
Same as me. I never went to the dentist for over 15 years, never had a filling or anything wrong with my teeth, brush them and use mouth wash twice a day. I seen a local private dentist taking on new clients so decided to go and sign up, had my first check up few months ago which cost £14 and the dentist was really pleased with the condition on my teeth considering i havent seen a dentist in over 15 years and told me to carry on what im doing with brushing and using mouthwash and il be fine. Got routine check ups every 6 months now.
It amazes me that in today's society that a dentist is no longer the norm...
I know of many that have not been since a child and I know families that don't even take their kids!
Always gone regularly, apart from one year when seriously ill and my dental practice of 25 years took me off their books. I now have to travel 15 miles outside the city I live in for a NHS dentist, as it's a minimum 2 year wait for a NHS one closer to home.

My dentist used to send me annual checkup/hygiene appointment text reminders BC (Before Corona), but they've stopped since. My guess is that because of corona hysteria they have scaled down their "non essential" operations, otherwise why would they pass on recurring business?
Were you an NHS patient..? I imagine it's still the case that if you don't attend an appointment for 6 months or something like that, you lose your NHS place at your dentist. If you ignored them and didn't go maybe they've given you the boot. Happened to me.
I go to the demerits bi annually and pay for a check up and a polish. I brush twice a day, floss regularly and often mouthwash after meals when at home. Can’t stand poor oral hygiene. Even those on council estates who get free dental care. Go sort your gums out.
I gave up on flossing a few years ago in favour of using one of those scrapers just to get in between the teeth and rip all the shit out of there. Attacking each gap from the front and the back.
Flossing first, and then using the scraper, there seemed to be some small bits left for the scraper to deal with.
When I tried it the other way around, the scraper didn't seem to leave anything behind for the floss to deal with. So it's just been the scraper for me ever since.
I go every 6 months for a check-up and a cleaning - last real work was done about 2 years ago. I grew up sh1t scared of dentists, as did most English kids of my generation - the big fcuking rubber masks and pain for no good reason - sadistic bastards, nothing like today.
My kids have grown up with six-monthly dental appointments at a pediatric dentist and have zero fears. My bigger one (11) now needs adult braces and I'm looking at a $4,500 bill (£3,750) but she'll have perfect teeth - worth it in my opinion. Pretty much all dentistry over here is private.
