  1. Lockdown extended to 5th March

A mental health charity is calling on the UK Government to back more funding for mental health charities helping UK workers as depression and suicide rates rise across the country due to COVID-19. A recent report by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) has revealed rates of depression have doubled during the COVID-19 pandemic, with almost one in five adults (19.2%) experiencing some form of depression during June – up from around one in 10 (9.7%) last year. https://www.healtheuropa.eu/mental-health-funding-urgently-needed-as-uk-suicides-increase/103728/ James Rudoni, Managing Director of Mates in Mind said: “This pandemic, and the subsequent lockdowns, has brought disruption to our way of life and to business on a scale previously unknown in peacetime, fear for our physical and mental wellbeing and the health of those around us, grief for those who have lost loved ones, and economic uncertainty for many. “Unfortunately, alongside the COVID-19 pandemic, there is likely to be a ‘mental healthpandemic’ that, if left unaddressed will have a long-term mental health impact will be much more far-reaching and difficult to recover from. We are working with workplaces across the UK to immediately review their workplace’s mental health plans, ensure they have pro-active strategies in place to support their people, and that they know how, where, and when to access crisis support.

Looks like you are right with your May and pubs/restaurants prediction. https://news.sky.com/story/covid-19-bars-and-restaurants-should-stay-shut-until-may-to-avoid-disastrous-r-rate-12194829 f**k it. Close them all indefinitely I say, just to be on the safe side. It's the only sensible option at this point
  3. Is Lockdown Working?

If masks are so effective and they have been widespread in China for many many years, they sure as hell didn't do a great job in stopping the spread of Covid out of China in the first place. In fact many of this forum who are now huge advocates of mask wearing were ridiculing those who were saying mandatory mask wearing was coming our way back in March last year. I remember comments along the lines of "I have no idea why these tin foil nut jobs keep banging on about masks when no-one on this forum is advocating wearing them" The govt then told us to wear them, and the ones that then questioned mask wearing were guilty of selfish behaviour and endangering the lives of others.

I stand by my time tested SAGE level predictive modelling formula for lockdowns coming to end: What ever date it is right now + a few more weeks of restrictions + if everyone does what we we are told + a few more weeks for a bit of margin = end of restrictions. Rinse and repeat.
  5. Is Lockdown Working?

Such a wonderfully accurate turn of phrase that seems such a contradiction or even an oxymoron. I wouldn't have thought it possible to ever describe someone as a lockdown enthusiast but you are right, that is exactly where we are at in society. Bizarre yet true.
  6. National Lockdown

  7. I honestly don't know how humanity made it this far without compulsory mask wearing.

  9. National Lockdown

Two masks - just a sensible precaution... Anyone wearing just the one just isn't taking this whole thing seriously enough to be honest https://www.insideedition.com/media/videos/experts-recommend-wearing-double-masks-as-covid-19-death-rates-climb-rapidly-64348

  14. When are we thinking gyms will open again?

I think a safe rule of thumb is - what ever month you think gyms should probably open all being well, then add another few months on top of that. Then prepare for them closing not long after as we head towards Autumn and the govt shits themselves at the sniff of the latest new strain/variant ( even if the variant is less virulent, but heh its new so we should all be fearful)

You completely misunderstand my position but ok
