High blood pressure...

My manager at work suffers from high blood pressure and has been prescribed tabs (zendip or something like that)then told to double them and theyre still not working. Just wondering if theres anythings else he can try to help lower. He trains everyday, light weights and cardio and goes fell walking on the weekend. Any ideas?

Re: High blood pressure...

Could be a number of things, self medicating for high blood pressure probably is not the best idea.
Could even be his kidneys, funny thing, he probably is on BP medication to protect his kidneys.

Does he drink or smoke?
Is he over weight?
Is his diet high in salt?
Is he under a bunch of stress?
Does he get good sleep?
Is his diet good?
Is he taking fat burners?

Could be anything really.

Garlic, hawthorn, dandelion, fish oils all would be a good addition to his perscription.

He doesnt smoke has a glass of red wine mon to fri which he struggles to cut out.
He probably is classed as overweight but hes quite muscular for his age (64) and comes from a wrestling background.
His diet isnt high in salt and he eats mainly vegetarian foods. Although he does snack occasionally on cakes etc. Not everyday though.
He isnt under stress although he makes himself stressed at the littlist things.
Yes he gets good sleep.
No hes not taking fat burners.

Thanks for the response hacksii, i no that you know what your talking about. So you would suggest garlic etc because his tablets are not helping at all, and i think that gets him even more stressed. Thanks for the help.

Re: High blood pressure...

Garlic will have just a little effect, but hawthorne might help out alot.
It takes about 3 days before it kicks in so tell him to take it for a while and just monitor things.

How high is his BP?

When you get older the elasticity in the arteries is not as good as when you are younger, due to this loss of flexibility you can have higher blood pressure, usually older folks get this.

It could be something wild like too acidic environment causing the kidneys to stress and elivate BP.
They probably have him on a diuretic and a beta blocker.

Thanks for all the help mate. His BP is 160/114. So il tell him to get some hawthorne and stop eating the cakes from when he does.

Re: High blood pressure...

he is on zanidip.

Lercanidipine Hydrochloride belongs to a group of medicines called calcium channel blockers, which act on the heart and blood vessels. Lercanidipine slows the movement of calcium through cells, which has two results. It decreases the rate at which the heart beats and also has a widening effect on blood vessels. This combination causes blood pressure to be reduced.

Re: High blood pressure...

Also, L-Arginine will also help to be a vasodialator.

Oh hell, check this out, true story.
I did this myself but my geriatric moment I forgot until now.
I read along time ago about using cellery seed to help lower blood pressure.
My girlfriend has a centrafugal(sp) juicer.
So, I thought if cellery helped to lower BP then I was going to try the juice.

Have him juice some cellery, and drink between 8 and 12 ounces of that. It will take probably a half a big stalk to get that but have him do it then in an hour check his BP, bet money it will be much lower.
I did it myself even on my meds and it was the lowest I ever had ever.
Then I did some reading on cellery juice and BP and it said dont do two glasses as you can get dizzy and have the feeling of passing out due to the BP being too low.

You have to drink it once you juice it as once it is juiced the next day it will smell like it is not good. Also the enzymes will be ok once it is juced, you need to drink it.

Have him try that.

Re: High blood pressure...

You could get really creative and be one of the first kids on your block to have one of these: http://www.amazon.com/RESPeRATE-Bloo...1780_fe_txt_2/

RESPeRATE is the first medical device proven to lower blood pressure without side effects. This revolutionary device harnesses the power of breathing to lower blood pressure naturally. It's featured in Mayo Clinic book "On High Blood Pressure" and is doctor recommended.
