vitamins

i had a discussion earlier with someone telling me that you should take vitamins last thing at night because they are absorbed better when your metabolism is slowest!?!?
any views on this?
I don't personally think it makes much difference???

Re: vitamins

i think vitamins can be a waste,if your eating a proper diet you should get all you need, and if you do take them i dont think it would matter when you took them as your body doesnt store them.

Re: vitamins

Vitamin supplements are definitely essential for athletes or anyone who trains hard. Even more so if you take ASS. They do more than just 'keep you healthy'. Remember RDA's are based on a 70kg man not a 100kg strength trainer or similar. Many people forget how the vits and min are involved in nearly all of the essential processes of the body. Including anabolic processes.

Vits should be taken with food as some vits require a 'carrier' and may not be absorbed on an empty stomach. As for time of day/night, it makes no difference.

Also, the time released vitamins aren't proven to work as yet, so the jury is still out.

This is just not true your body can store some vits and minerals and not others. Depends on wether their fat or water soluble if I remember right. Vitamin pills are a good supplement but not replacement for fruit and veg. Fruit and veg contain more nutrients than any vit pill will.

i have never been a fan of time release vitamins and i take all of mine with meals, I do take a lot of vitamins, but on recommendation because of various defeciencies (i swear i am falling apart).
have tried leaving them off and really do notice a difference in my over all health and training ability. do most ppl here take a mutivit? if so, which one?

Re: vitamins

I use CNP's Pro-Vital.

You end up taking 7 a day.

4capsules + 1 tab in the morning
1 capsule + 1 tab in the evening.

Re: vitamins

Man, chicks need more iron and calcium then men.

If my memory serves me correctly Vitamin B12 can be stored in the liver for up to a year.

Its possible that it can be stored for a year, but highly unlikely and vey rare, esp in n active individual.

no it doesn't.

As for your friend speculating that night is the best time to take vitamins because your digestion is slowed, I feel that morning is best because your body is in a fasted state and ready to mop up nutrients. be that as it may, i recommend taking your vitamins in two split does - 1 in the morning and one at night. the reason being the water soluble vitamins are excreted rather quickly(esp if you work up a sweat during the day, and also, you give yourself the opportunity to absorb more of the multi because its half the dose as it would have been if you took it all it one sitting. by splitting the doses you exponentially increase the ability to absorb all those micro-minerals and trace elements. if you have a one a day break it in half, and if you have 2 a day, well that speaks for itself. i recommend taking the second dose at dinner, rather than at bedtime as (for me anyway) ingesting a multi too late causes insomnia in some people.

Re: vitamins

I usually take my vit/minerals twice a day morning with breakfast and again with evening meal heres what i take:

am: Quest Vit C 1000mg t/r
Solgar Vm75
FSC zinc picolonate
N/A Fish oils x 6 1000mg
Dessicated Liver x 6
Pharma nord coq10 100mg
Glucosmaine 1500mg

pm: Quest Vit C 1000mg t/r
N/A fish oils x 6
Glucosamine 1500mg x 1
Solgar Antioxidants

I dont take that exactly every month this is what im taking this month though, i usually swop things round for example next month i'll drop the high strengh zinc & antioxidants and probably get some astaxanthin and some selenium

im guessing a lot of people on here take this much, this isnt including protein shakes, glutamine, creatine, AAKg etc...
