Can I suggest something?
A resize option when attaching a pic to a post.. So many times people have attached pics too big (including me in Male Animal ) and don't have photoshop on their computer to resize themselves.. and some of the "content" you wouldn't want to upload to a public thing like ImageShack etc. :P

i agree this would be good,but you can do it using PAINT its what i use to shrink my pics.

lol pfft.. damn right.. but how hard would it be? to add a -img src="imagelocationhere" WIDTH="width-here"- part to the attachments? surely not that hard! and paint skews the pic so it isn't even... or maybe im just computer illiterate :P

You can download a free program called infraview and its is awesome does everything and its for dummies so that you wont have any issues when trying to resize pics crop them or so on.

The board does have the capability to resize images automatically if the imagemagick libraries are installed on the server and picture were uploaded to the server itself. The big problem with that is overhead on the server. It takes a huge amount of bandwidth, increasing the cost of operating the board, as well as using up huge chunks of hard drive space.

I used to run an adult dvd site with the same software as here and we hosted the cover images as well... traffic was about 1 terrabyte a month, and the hard drives were a raid array of 3x300Gb drives. We were always having to drop older stuff just to make space. backups of the board used to take a full 8 hours to complete or if it was a backup to my own server at home it used to take a full 24 hours on my 10Mb connection.

The answer is yes, it could be done... the probability though is not because of the costs involved.

The penalties of being a fat geek....

My adult dvd collection is still pretty huge....... current count is in the region of 3000 titles....

As for the resizing of images... it isn't that hard to do. There is a free add-in power toy for xp which will do it for you very easily. I personally use a bit of software called acdsee. If I am playing with images seriously I open photoshop ut that is ott for simple resizes.
