Calf training question

Hi.

I was wondering what your opinions are on calf training?

what do you do for your calves and what's the frequency like?

 

Obviously squats hit them to a certain extent, though I've heard weighted calf raises are a great addition (I'd be doing them on the smith machine as we don't have a dedicated machine in my gym).

Standing calf raises with foot on the edge of a 1.5"-2" high plate and a barbell loaded with whatever weight I deem nescessary on my shoulders like a high bar squat

3x10 once a week on leg day

We do, but I presumed the there needs to be a bend at the ankle to activate them fully, as was suggested with the plates?
