Some days I have as many as five... depending on how long I am up and also how many solid meals I can fit in... also sometimes I feel a little more hungry and so supplement my solid food with a shake... each of my shakes has about 50grams of protein in them except my after training shake which has about 110grams of protein... plus some carbs.. this comes from whey and micellar casein...

That is cool. If they dont have carbs then I would add a small amount of flax seed and add some fruit like a bananna or some strawberries. If you dont have flax seed then eat some peanuts for the fat. Or even some olives about 3. This will give you some quality fats (mono-unsaturated) along with the good quality protein and quality carbs. Post workout can be taken by itself but I would still add the above if you can help it. The shakes are a supplement not a meal but will be ok for 2.

At the minute I am on 1 or 2 a day as I'm in a slack period! But usually I take 5 a day each comtaining about 40-50g of whey and most also contain 80g of carbs

For me the priority is the post workout shake, with about 50g of protein.

4-5 per day.

Morning: (Meal 1)
- Protien shake (50 grams)
- 1 1/2 cup of %100 rolled oats
- Orange juice

Meal 2
- Protien Shake (50grams)

Lunch (Meal 3)
- Tuna
- Banana

Meal 4
- Protien shake (50 grams)

(Work out)
Meal 5 (Within 30 minutes after workout)
- Protien and Carb Shake

Dinner (Meal 6)
- 2 Chicken breasts (50 grams Protien)
- Sweet potatoe
- Salad

Meal 7
Either a light salad or a Protien shake.

I try to eat every 2-3 hours between meals. This is my standard Diet. I'll change it up with Different fruits and Vegtables. There is a big benefit in eating this way. Your body will constantly have nutrients when needed (eg. Positive nitrogen Balance), and your Metabalism is constantly burning calories. Protien is the key, it can be stored as fat (but not usually), and it's a great way to stay anabolic through out the day.

why? i tend to just spoon out 100g of whey in each shake. Usually have 1 shake first thing, then another after my workout.

Am I wasting it by taking 100g at a time and should drop that to just 50g?

I would drop that to 50. I have heard two diffrent things on this subject but for sure it is anything more than 30-40 grams is a waist. Now that depends on the metabolism and size and wether you are on gear or not but that is for every 2 hrs.
Just split it up you can pack on at least that much protein divided throu out the day.
But personally, I prefere the old fashoned way of eating my protein, not drinking it.

So are you saying then that you shouldnt consume any more than 30/40grams every 2 hours.

I too like the old fashioned way, but shakes are convient and good if used in moderation. I tend to have a 100g shake first thing before breakfast (4 wheatabix in milk), mid morning snack of 2 chicken breasts in a sarnie, then for lunch its 3 packs of sarnies, usually chicken or tuna, then another couple of chicken breasts in a sarnie mid-afternoon. Have workout at 5 when i get in from work, then a 100g shake immediatley afterwards & then an evening meal 1hr after that. Evening meal is usually 300g tuna & jacket potato. Very often then snack out on peanuts during the evening, and often fit in another meal before bed.

So, im already spreading out the protien/calories throughout the day. Im just worried that my shakes are being wasted, and should i drop em down to 50g.

Im 185lb, bodyfat is prob about 15%, on 500mg iranian test pw, doing a 5x5 routine. Really pushing it heavy atm whilst im motivated enough! lol.

also depends on ur budget? like me, a poor student, it's how much I can afford. a tub usually lasts me for 3 weeks, is that about about how long a tub should last if ur only taking about 3 or 4 a day?
