Glutamine

Just thought i'd see if you could clear this up for me...... I'm gonna start taking some glutamine (should have started a long time ago!) and am getting a bit confused. Saw Holland and Barrats "better than half price" sale on tele, so nipped down to find L-Glutamine at a knocked down price so snapped a load up. Got home to take my tablet to find they recommend 1 a day containing 500mg of L-Glutamine..... I have previously read that you take 10 - 20 g in 3-4 doses through out the day of Glutamine supplement. - Is L-Glutamine different from Glutamine? Why the small dose of these tablets? I've bought a stack of this S**t - what's going on?!!!!

Desdicado is on a distinguished road
Going on my own experience, you're better with powder rather than tablets.
The tablets are for the average Joe who will take one a day for the immune boosting, improved digestion effects you get from L-Glutamine.

If you are taking it for bodybuilding purposes I'd say about 5g before you train will be fine, some folks take up to 10g a day. (That's 20 tablets!).
So, it gets expensive even at half price costs, as well as being a pain in the ass to take 10 to 20 tablets.

The cheapest place I've seen is online at woods pharmacy.

Regarding L or not L, I don't think it matters as it's the same stuff you buy.

This website is great for unbiased info on Supplements. Incidentally, the missing letters in the web address are "t-w-a-t" I kid you not. Is that why they've been blanked out?.

Lightbulb Glutamine

Hello

If you're using a protein supplement yuo shoul dbe getting plenty of glutamine anyway, but it's always good to boost the levels anyway.

The tablets from h & b, only have 500mg = 0.5g, which isn't very much at all.

I think the tablets are meant for people that don't get much excercise and have it as a booster drug like vitamins.

As for the L-glutamine you seem to be puzzled about let me explain...

Glutamine is an amino acid and like all amino acids (except glycine) there are two forms L and D.

The ones that occur in the body are the L form.

All it is is scientific nomenclature for a compound, based on the way the chiral centre bends the plain of polarised light.

glycine doesn't have an L or D before because it isn't chiral.

That's all it is.
