Should i make or buy a PWO shake?

Ive been reading up on post workout nutrition and have got very confused as to what is needed right after training... i know protein is needed but other than that im not sure!
Would it be better to buy things individually from myprotein for example and make a pwo shake? (eg maltodextrin, whey etc)
If so what is needed?
Or should i just buy a branded one? if so any recommendations?

Im looking to put on mass right now btw...

Thanks for your help

Re: Should i make or buy a PWO shake?

you will need carbs in your pwo shake mate, best thing to do is make your own... a few scoops of whey and 2 scoops of cornflour(wms) cornflour has the exact same properties and is cheap as fook, you could also add in creatine and l glutamine.

To me it don't have to be a specific post workout shake, as long as you get a meal or your regular protien down you. It's better than having nowt and will do the job.

if you want to gain mass then carbs and protein after training will be benifical to you.

even though liquids have more studies on them than you can imagine?

Food is fine but why not take advantage of a very anabolic window with the ideal approach?

Carbs at some point but directly after training is not a given
EAA and glutamine would suffice PWO

Yes I agree, people should take advantage of anabolic window. But if you have no carbs, glute or what ever you need, your basic bog standard protien shake will do the job. Just depends on what you want.

As a honda would do the job to get round a formula one race but why drive a honda when a mclaren is so easy to use with a couple of hours reading and some tinkering over time

Anyone who is using a basic bog standard protien shake for PWO is selling themselves short and whilst it may be a small factor, every small 1-2% builds up to 20-30% in your whole make up and TBH this is a gimme

Re: Should i make or buy a PWO shake?

I personally buy one for ease. it doesnt cost that much really per shake, and after the effort of the gym, spending less than the cost of a pint doesn't seem to bad to me. but if you do make your own then i would include carbs and protein.

I know lost soul doesnt believe in the carbs but i have tried pure whey after training and didnt feel i was getting the same benefit as something with the carbs.

i feel it is a real must though, because as soon as you finish training your body is crying out for some nutrition. something liquid with a fairly quick digesting protein should do the job.

He did not say that, he simply said that carbs can be replaced by glutamine and if your using EAA's then I'd definatly agree that this is ONE option depending on your diet. I'd also put glycine (15g) in there also if going carb free but for the moment that has to be ordered from abroad for what ever reason.
