Creatine

Hi folks,

What type of creatine would you recommend?. I quite like the look of Interactive nutrition Creatine Blast as it's got d-pinitol and ALA and other extras in it.

The best I've used til now is Maximuscle 3000ES, good but very expensive.

A BIG tub of plain Creatine Monohydrate. Load it using apple/grape juice then take your maintenance dose in your post-workout shake.

Of course that assumes that you do take a post-workout shake!

Thanks Lorian, yes I do, I must've used every protein under the sun, just now I'm using Cappuchino flavour EAS simply Whey (Special offer from somewhere) It's ok, not the best.
Regarding Creatine, Pure creatine certainly works out a lot cheaper!.

I'm looking to buy protein and creatine this week, how do I find which products us subscribers get reduced on the protein factory site?.

I've just messaged you the URL

Regarding post-workout shake, do you generally just have protein? or protein+carbs?

Hi mate

I would definately recommend adding some carbs! immediately post-workout you have a small window of opportunity to replenish your bodys depleted energy stores and start the recovery process.

There are products designed specifically for this purpose eg, Biotest Surge and Chemical Nutrition Pro-Recover. Surge has an almondy flavour but is quite bitter, as is the Pro-Recover Strawberry flavour - this is due to the nature of the ingredients. The chocolate Pro-Recover however is sweet as .. I could drink that stuff just for the enjoyment of it

As a cheaper alternative, Chemical Nutrition produce a plain carb powder called Pro-Fuel which is a bargain IMO as you can mix a scoop or 2 into your whey and voila - instant post-workout shake.

Also, adding carbs immediately post-workout produces an insulin spike which drives nutrients into muscle tissue - hence this is an ideal time to take your Creatine so dump a scoop of that in as well. You then bypass the need for fancy overpriced Creatine delivery drinks.

What about creatine tablets? Are these as effective as the powders?

Read the post..... do you recon that plain old Creatine Monohydrate powder is as effective as these "delivery systems" e.g. Cell Tech which has simple carbs and ALA and other stuff claiming to boost uptake to the muscles? Am I being sucked into their marketing ploy or is there some use for cell - tech?

I don't doubt that the "delivery systems" are effective, however I do question whether they are worth the extra expense.

If you've got money to burn then sure, I have no problem with them. However, I think that for many people (and especially people new to supplementation) they are better off with plain powder and apple/grape juice. With the money they save they can then buy more food .. its all a question of balance. There's no point spending all your cash on "Muscle Freak HydroBurst 1000 Delivery Formula" if it isnt going to leave you enough for the basics - food & MRPs !

What is the window for post workout feeding? Can I just eat protein and carbs instead of the drinks? Are the drinks better? I workout during work and dont have access to blenders and stuff but I do bring my lunch and eat right after I workout. I would like to know the window and amounts ok?

It's a big debate on how soon after your workout that you take your supplements but here's what I do

Within about 5 mins of my workout I take 2 scoops of whey and 10g of Glutamine mixed in a shaker. This can be filled up the night before so all you need to do is add water. I then sip on a lucazade sport/Gatorade or something similer after I have got changed and on the way home in the car, if I am taking creatine I put in in my carb drink and give it a shake

How many grams is recomended after a workout? I think 2 scoops is 50 grams. Is this right? I have a shaker and I just got a desk today at work and can bring in loads of protein.
