Best value L-Carnitine

Hi,

I am new to the board. I am looking for a good value supplier of L-carnitine. Can you recommend anyone please.

Cheers

Re: Best value L-Carnitine

One of the bulk suppliers like myprotein should do it but many will ask why you want it? Its a poor supplement

Re: Best value L-Carnitine

i am now thinking I got the wrong supp. I am looking for something to give me a bit more energy. I am planning on taking vit C, multi vit & mineral , glucosamine and maybe a protein powder. I thought I had read that l-carnitine was a good amino acid....

What would you suggest instead?

Rich

Re: Best value L-Carnitine

Carnitine is touted as a weight los supplement, but their is minimal support for it. Here is something to read if you get a moment (google it)

VillaniRG, Gannon J, Self M, Rich PA. L-Carnitine supplementation combined with aerobictraining does not promote weight loss in moderately obese women. Int J SportNutrExerc Metab 2000;10:199–207.

creatine may have been what you meant? but again thats for anaerobic efforts based on strength

Re: Best value L-Carnitine

I am going to be doing some training like crossfit or rosstraining with a view to losing weight and gaining strength and fitness.

I don't want to go overboard on the supps, but I also don't want to get too fatigued.

Re: Best value L-Carnitine

Dont use any supplements then
High carbohydrates before training
same after, adequate protein, clean diet, enough rest and make sure your activity puts you below your calorie requirement. fat can be medium low with some nice fats to help you out
all clean veg, lots of water and your good to go

Re: Best value L-Carnitine

It will be a case of:

5-6 small feedings a day
carbs will be from oats, basmati rices, wholegrain bread, sweet spuds, weetabix,
proteins from lean red meat, eggs, chicken, turkey, low fat cottage cheeses
fats from olives, fish, nuts, seeds and unrefined oils (see EFAs)
veg from fibre rich stuff

Just have small feedings, split them up, keep all meals about the same size

start on about 1800 calories per day thats 6 x 300 calorie meals, some ideas below:

75g of chicken
10g no fat mayo
Onion slices
Tomato slices

1 Slice Wholemeal Toast
100g low fat cottage cheese
Apple
200 ml skimmed milk

Whey protein powder
Skimmed Milk
Sultanas
Porridge Oats
(Blended with hand blender)

40g wholemeal Pasta
50g tuna
25g sweet corn
Apple
Orange

Half an avocado
Tuna
salad

45g whole meal pasta
100g Chicken
40 g sweet corn
10g no fat mayo

1 pint skimmed milk
25g of whey protein
20g oats
Chopped plum
(Blended into shake)

Muller Light Yoghurt
Apple
100g Cottage Cheese
Slice Wholemeal Bread

30g mackerel strips
2 oat cakes
pear

tablespoon peanut butter
3 rivita
Piece of fruit

2 weetabix
150ml smikked milk
Small selection of nuts (30g)

45g Basmati Rice
100g chicken
50g Garden Peas
25g sweet corn

50g Oats
100 ml Skimmed Milk
4 Egg Whites (fried)

Small handful nuts
Muller light yoghurt
Apple

Orange
3 rice cakes with peanut butter
Whey protein shake

10 olives
100g tuna
Range of salad

Then 3-4 cardio sessions per week, weights twice and the odd treat in your diet. keep water intake high, leave all supplements behind

If you find you lose too much weigh, increase the size of meals and on the flip, lower the size of meals if you are not or energy is WAY down.

Give that 6-12 months, report back

Thats a glib oversight for you

Dont do it all, just fit a few of those in over time and clean your diet up as you go, make things easier than just jumping in
