Protein Powders - worth it or hype

I got a shock today when discovered that the protein powder I usually buy has gone up by over a tenner for a 5kg tub. I'm not a scrooge when it comes to parting with cash, but I don't like to pay over the odds either.

So two questions really.
1. Is protein powder worth taking or just over hyped and expensive. I know many of you feel that you can't beat real food, but there is only so much I can pack away during 24 hours!

2. If worth taking, which brand do you recommend and from where?

Thanks fellas.

1. Is protein powder worth taking-yes it takes more than one box to add muscle like most people think they are not hype.or just over hyped and expensive. I know many of you feel that you can't beat real food, but there is only so much I can pack away during 24 hours!

2. If worth taking, which brand do you recommend and from where?if you dont like to spend much try myprotien cheap and good.

Thanks fellas.

Sure protein powders are great. But they aint as good as food IMHO

I only ever use them if a solid meal really isnt possible.

Re: Protein Powders - worth it or hype

proteins powders are good if your not getting enough protein from food, there only supplements dude, shouldnt be relied upon imo. foods the way forward, why dont you just spend 40quid on steak or chicken instead of tubs of protein

Re: Protein Powders - worth it or hype

some people cant stomach that much steak and chicken.

if i where to get the 5000 cals a day i have when trying to gain weight from just whole foods i seriously wouldnt be able to move.

i get around 1/3 to half of my protein from shakes.

Re: Protein Powders - worth it or hype

Given the choice I would prefer real food but as Andy said above, I can't eat that much so do need to supplement.

Will give myprotein a look, thanks for the tip.

Jay Walker will become famous soon enough
Re: Protein Powders - worth it or hype

I only use it for first thing in the morning, and after my workout, due to its quick acting nature.
Use real food everytime, it has its uses, but its no magic potion. You just cannot substitute proper food.

Re: Protein Powders - worth it or hype

Most prices on main protein products have gone up due to increase in the cost of dairy products. Just try and gets things when they do sales.

Re: Protein Powders - worth it or hype

You could always use the old fashioned way and just use eggs as your protein shake instead of protein powder you may find it a little cheaper!!!
