aye. was bit steep at 25 quid but that works out about 1.20 a serving which is cheap compared to making a good meal.

Have a look at the ingredients, amino acid profile and the amount you get for your money then compare it to companies who don't spend as much money on advertising.

I think you'll find the people with the biggest advertising budgets don't have the best formulas or offer the best value for money.

This is very true. A product that is marketed so agressively, and packaged so attractively leads me to believe that the product is possibly lacking in some areas. Look on the Pro Peptide thread that we had recently. I posted an letter from Phil Connoly that sparked a lot of discussion. The letter from him was in response to a certain manufacturers claims. I'll not mention names, but the company name starts with an 'M'. This company had made dubious claims about thier own products & tried to discredit others by using pseudo science.

Anyway, it was on a supermarket shelf, what does that tell you? Maybe they are struggling for credibility in the bodybuilding community...

Re: maximuscle progain

Maximuscle have always had their marketing plan to target the leisure trainer rather than the hardcore trainer. The products are aimed at people who train occasionally and do not full understand nutrition. They advertise heavily in magazines such as Men’s Fitness and target their sales at Supermarkets and main stream Leisure Chains and for that you have to admire the business acumen. As for the quality if the product I have never really used it so cant comment but generally I feel that they are often a combination of ingredients that are more for convenience rather than effectiveness. Personally I will stick with brands I trust and who also support the sport rather than trying to exploit it but each to their own

I am surprised that the product is cheap when by shopping around you can get other brands at discounted prices, I know their Training accessories tend to be on the expensive side.

To be fair, and I'm not Maximuscle's biggest fan but I like to tell it like it is, Maximuscle dont target the 'leisure training' market as you call it because those people are more naive or know less about nutrition, but because its a much larger more lucrative market than 'hardcore trainers'. This is precisely why Maximuscle are the UK's largest sports nutrition brand by a long long way and much bigger than the brands who only bother with the bodybuilding market.

The bodybuilding market is very small compared to the growing markets for both 'sportsmen' and 'leisure trainers'. The readership of Men's Health for instance is massively more than the readership for Flex. And whilst Maximuscle dont support the bodybuilding world all that much, they do plough a lot of money into the wider field of sports and athletics as well as contributing to intiatives such as ESSNA which are for the good of the overall sports nutrition sector.

I'm completely unbiased in my view of Maximuscle and have every reason to dislike them because they wont even deal with us direct and make life quite difficult for online retailers like us selling their products (plus the only time I ever spoke to anyone at Maximuscle was several years ago when they threatened to sue me for something completely beyond my control), but I am smart enough to acknowledge that they have a massively positive effect on the sports nutrition market and help us all raise sports nutrition into the general publics view. Unfortunately not many people in the industry have the smarts to realise this, so you only tend to hear bad things about them. Even companies like Extreme benefit from Maximuscle, because Maximuscle plough their money into not only advertising their products but also educating the general public on sports nutrition and then many of those people will choose not to buy Maximuscle because of the price, but instead to choose cheaper brands such as Extreme, Reflex, USN etc.. etc.. I know we benefit a lot from Maximuscle because we have loads of customers come to our site looking for Maximuscle stuff, and end up choosing a similar product from a different brand because of the better pricing.

In terms of Maximuscle's products, they do make very good products but they are just very expensively priced. I've never been disappointed with the quality of a Maximuscle product yet, just disappointed with the price. But if they sell well at that price, as they do, then what reason do they have to decrease the price? They are a business after all and have staff and bills to pay.

Re: maximuscle progain

quick, quick, before Extreme, Boditronics and Reflex post Just kidding guys!

There's loads to be honest. Its hard to choose there are so many. I actually quite like Dymatize Mega Milk as a weight gain product because it has a nice protein blend and healthy fats. You can add carbs if you want them by getting some plain maltodextrin like Extreme Carbs, GN Complex Carbs, CNP Pro Fuel etc..

Reflex Instant Mass is a very good, more traditional weight gain product with a good protein/carbs mix. CNP Pro Mass is excellent also. People give maltodextrin a hard time as a carb source, but I think its fine so long as its not in massive amounts.

I used Maximuscle when I started training.. Can't really complain about them apart from the price. GNC gold cards get your some money off but I get trade price on BSN and CNP now so I'm cool with that LOL!
