It has made sure that the health benefits are well publicised & ywisted to suit, and also gone to great lengths to quash as much information as possible on the downsides getting out to the general population. I am not paranoid, nor do I think it's a conspiracy, but I do have an inherent distrust of the food industry as a whole. This makes me far more conscious of what I eat than most, so I agree most people will not really see any difference. A bodybuilder however, striving for that ever elusive perfect physique, should leave no stone unturned in all aspects of the sport, and nutrition is a key factor. For this reason, as a bodybuilder, I choose to steer away from soya, along with the other obvious nasties out there. I do agree that the general population is not in any immediate danger of keeling over after eating a tofu burger, I just thought the article was bold in it's critique of such a powerful industry. I imagine the author has been whacked by now!!

You ever heard of this? I hadn't until yesterday.

It will still contain a lot of the harmful substances found in the bean originally so this will indeed adversely affect the absorbtion of some nutrients. To what degree the inclusion of soya lecithin supplementation in the diet will have on the impairment of nutrients, I don't know. I would imagine however, it has far less effect than eating tofu, or other precipitated soya products simply due to the supplement form being less physical volume than the foods themselves. Sport Dr may well have more info on this though.

Nine pack, You appear to have the Soya industry ear marked for a probably healthy dose of sceptiscism, I am sure some of your suspicion has validity but I really don't think they could manipulate the entire fitness industry into a giant hush hush campaign about there produce. I know we don't get told everything straight away about the dangers to our health of additives etc, but Soya isn't just being touted as a food, its a health food! PAcked with protein, low in saturated fat, high in complex carbohydrates (unlike meat). It also yeilds 10x the amount of protein per hectare, in comparison to cattle, potentially solving famine in many countries. I am sure therefore it has come under the sceptical eyes of many health professionals, yet the greater majority appear to be saying eat it! I wouldn't eat a lot of Tofu, and I do not exclude meat, but you can write just as big if not bigger an article about how dangerous eating beef is, but you got to eat something right? and anything in moderation is not going to hurt you...except hard drugs maybe. In my research I have actually come up with some sites which support your fears: http://www.soyfreesolutions.com/alle...bc7ba21dbba21d http://www.wholesoystory.com/ http://www.mothering.com/articles/gr...soy_story.html This one is well referenced. http://www.westonaprice.org/soy/index.html I am still looking through the links on the last one, but a lot of the points brought up in the original article relate to Soy Isolate, and the effects of Soy on infants and the results can't be generalised to an adult eating Tofu. However I am much more enlightened than I was and shocked really, how can there be so many widely differing opinions on such a popular food?? Perhaps you are right to exercise caution Ninepack, I have as yet not experienced any negative affects, I like the way it feels light in my stomach and appears to digest well, its so versatile and stores so easily, but in the studies, some of the symptoms took three months of regular usage to become apparent and I have only been eating it seriously 1 month.... As Sport Dr has seen himself, if you look around, there is evidence to contradict popular opinion. There is always two sides to every story. Anyway, I'm going to leave it there and just accept that people have thier own views, I did not want this to drag out into a long soya debate. I have my opinions & have read enough to know that I can get much better quality nutrients elsewhere instead of soya. Also, whilst I still have canines in my mouth, I'll be eating meat.
