It also works the other way, we often get someone presuming 'brand x' is a better protein than 'brand y' because it has 45g per serving rather than the 25g most brands do - but of course they dont always pick up on that meaning there are fewer servings and that they could get the same amount of protein just doubling up on servings from brand y. The serving size on the tub is meaningless. We tend to advise customers to take 25g-35g of protein per serving as I've always thought that an optimal level for absorption. With weight gainers its getting to be almost a game between manufacturers to see who can get the biggest number of calories per serving. When you're getting towards 2000 cals per serving its just ridiculous, you're not going to utilise that kind of mega-dose effectively. With a lot of the weight gainers, we're having to advise customers to only take in half doses else a) they're just going to get plain fat and b) they arent going to get much mileage out of the tub. Having said that there are some very good mass gainers on the market (mostly the old ones - reflex instant mass, cnp pro mass). I like the newer 'mothers milk' kind of formulas as well (cytosport muscle milk, ast muscle xgf, dymatize mega milk) as those dont have such crazy amounts of carbs but have healthy fats and a good blend of proteins. | |
