udo's choice is an oil blend that is the dog's bollox. It is a very important addition to a BBing diet. H&B do their own version, which is half the price, about £12. Well worth it..

I have been buying whole flax seed from a local mill. It is organicly grown, so you don't have to worry about pesticides... washing the seeds is difficult at best. I've read a lot of health benefits, so I grind it myself and add it to my protein shakes.

One resent article regarding it's effect on prostate cancer caught my eye. I would like to get some feedback.

The article states, “We thought flaxseed would be the perfect food for prostate cancer patients,” said lead author Wendy Demark-Wahnefried, associate research professor in the department of surgery at Duke. “It’s full of omega-3 fatty acids, fiber and lignan. Testosterone may be important in the progression of prostate cancer, and lignan in the flaxseed binds testosterone, so we thought the flaxseed might suppress the growth of prostate cancer cells.

My question is, has anyone read of this testosterone-binding effect before? If so, would binding free testosterone adversly effect a cycle? If not during a cycle, do you think it makes sense to stop taking flax seed after a cycle, when you're attempting to kick in your endoginous production?

Thanks,
2tall

Well, I have done alot of reading about lignans and flax having one of the highest amounts 100 times more then the next source. Raw has higher amounts of lignans than the oil. The oil is like 2 percent.
Below is a good read:
Lignans are highly valuable phytonutrients, and are very good for health. The seed cake material rather than the oil contains most of them (about 98%). Lignans have anti-viral, anti-fungal, anti-bacterial properties. They also show anti-cholesterol, anti-cancer, anti-diabetes, anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-lupus benefits. In addition, lignans are phytoestrogens (weak estrogen activity), and therefore decrease high estrogen in women before menopause (protect against estrogen-related cancers) and increase estrogen after menopause (serve as estrogen replacement).

Udo's choice (panthra recommends this alot)!
A second very rich source of lignans, along with greens, several kinds of fiber, antioxidants, phytonutrients, and enzymes is a whole food blend called Udo's Choice Beyond Greens. It contains about 7 times more lignans than 'high lignan' flax oil.

Essential fats and lignans both have very useful health properties. Essential fats are one of the 14 components of health. Phytonutrients, which include lignans and hundreds of other useful molecules found in plants, herbs, and seeds, make up another of the 14 components of health. The other components of health include greens, water, air, light, minerals, vitamins, essential amino acids (from proteins), fuel, probiotics, digestive enzymes, fiber, and antioxidants.

Sorry for the copy and paste but it is a good read with some information.
Second part of your question, I dont know about binding test.

Scott,
Thanks for the info. It confirms much of what I've read, that this stuff is close to a perfect food. If it does have some minimal affinity to bind w/ test, then that may not be all bad. Our endoginous test production gets shut down because our endocrine system is trying to stay in homeostasis (stay balanced). By binding with free test, it may lessen the endocrine feedback that shuts down our own production. Also, your info indicates that it may reduce excess estrogen. That would be a great benefit durring a cycle.
Thanks for the research,
2tall
