Creatine - What are all the different types?

I was wondering if anyone had a good article or could tell me about the different types of creatine about? There seems to be a few incuding monohydrate, CEE and a Micronized etc...

Thanks

Creatine Ethyl Ester HCL (CEE) is creatine monohydrate with an ester attached for better absorption. I used monohydrate a few years back and had good results however I believe CEE is better.

CEE should be absorbed better than monohydrate which means you dont need to use as much. Some monohydrate that does not get absorbed remains outside of the muscle and causes bloating from water absorbtion.
Large doses of creatine can put stress on the kidneys, since creatine breaks down and is unstable in water and becomes a bio-waste product (creatinine).

Aside form CEE and monohydrate there is Kre-alkalyn, this product is designed to have much higher pH value than monohydrate, this should stop the creatine breaking down in liquids(water) and becoming creatinine.

I agree with BL1 that CEE is better than monohydrate, but I found strength gains to be similar, only difference was CEE gave less side effects (no bloating etc).

Creatine Monohydrate

- plain old regular creatine powder. Look for creapure brand if you're buying this (USN, Reflex, Prolab, Sci Mentor all use this brand) as its the purest.

Micronised Creatine

- monohydrate, but as the name suggests its micronised for better absorption. AST do the best micronised creatine imo.

Tri-Creatine Malate

- creatine bonded to malic acid, which is supposed to aid absorption further. There is good info here - http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/tricrea.html. I quite like this version of creatine, and of the ones I've tried SAN V12 is the best.

Creatine Ethyl Ester

- 'esterified creatine' (bonded to an ester). Again, this is supposed to get more of the creatine into the body so a smaller dose is required (for more details do a websearch).

I was disappointed with CEE after all the hype I'd read. It was ok but no better any other creatine for me. Personally I feel it gives similar gains to mono but you dont have to take as much and there is no water retention (if you're prone to that). On the negative side although you take less per serving, its much more expensive so you negate that anyway. Never being one to suffer from water retention I found no benefit to CEE. After the initial hype over CEE, a lot of people within the industry are saying the same kind of thing now and starting to question the need for it.

Micronised creatine is still my preference all things considered although its very close with SAN V12 (which I found slightly better but far less cost effective).

Thanks for all the information. I've not Creatine before but think I will go for CEE and see how I get on. The price of SAN V12 Turbo seems a lot more than most of the CEE (£39 compared to £15) and if you only found it slightly better then I think I'll go for CEE this time.

Would anyone recommend a certain brand of CEE? I've got All-in1 Whey so I was thinking of trying their CEE http://www.sports-nutrition.net/acat...hyl_Ester.html but welcome suggestions for alternatives.

Thanks again
