Anything that facilitates a digestive process will force blood to the stomach limiting (in theory) your pumps/workout ability. Raikey - far be it for me to tell you anything is wrong if it works for you but it will take about 30 minutes for those nutrients to exit your stomach so it won't really make a difference during the workout. Personally I would have Glutamine and BCAAs before a workout. Creatine, Glucose and Protein after. This is due to absorption. Glutamine and BCAAs are best absorbed on an empty stomach or with some simple carbs, the presence of protein will impair this (Glutamine). Creatine (monohydrate) takes about an hour to be absorbed as it has to travel to the lower intestine (I think) to be abosorbed by the body and I think I'm right in saying that some monohydrate doesn't get absorbed straight away and this leads to the cramping or other problems associated with monohydrate as the particles attract water to them. CEE is different in that it can be absorbed straight away due to an unique fat penetrating property? ( not sure on that one but I know it works for me). Also Glucose or simple sugars are best taken after training not before because after training there is a specific need by the body to have these simple sugars to replenish glycogen stores. If you take glucose before a workout you are more likely to cause an Insulin spike which will result in low blood sugar just about the time you need energy in your workout - BAD. There is also the possiblity that these simple sugars can be stored as fat as the body (if your diet is good) will have a topped up glycogen supply from all the complex carbs you have eaten with your lean protein that day and the day before remember glycogen replenishment can take up to 24 hours. That's just my view on it. ![]()

ChefX suggested the shake be drank some before, some during and some after, he was very adament about this, very. Also L-glutamin is actually an Amino Acid, so I dont see how protein will impair absorption. There are twenty amino acids found in proteins, glutamine being one of them. I would think actually glutamin might be better with all the amino's together. I myself like being kindof empty lifting. I hate to have anything in my stomach when I lift. But Post workout I have read very good things for this. Even stuff like half the protein requirement for the day can be taken in during Post Workout Shake. Or, carbohydrates (within moderation) wont store as fat with PWO shake. Those on a low carb diet will like this. You get the benefits of replenishing glycogen stores and no conciquences of fat gain. I am going to have to do this.

So instead I blend a couple of bananas a tea spoon of honey couple of eggs and a couple of scoops of whey. Will this be effective as a post workout drink? With this drink I can eat a good meal with an hour of drinking it. |

I wondered what the diffrence is with L-Glutamine and just Glutamine, I actually thought they were the same. What is the "L" stand for? Guess I can look it up ![]()

D-Alpha Tocapherol - Vit E I believe that the D and L explain how the substance is bonded or something, I read an article about it a few months ago but it was a lot of chemistry/biology talk. Supposedly the D versions of aminos are useless. I'll have to hunt for that article.
