Whats GABA? - UK-Muscle Body Building Community

Lads in work where telling me about this, a friend told them about it and were all wondering if its good stuff, but dont really know what it is?!?!

All they knew was that you take 2grms before bed and it increased your hormones resulting in quicker gains?

Anyone know about it?

I've taken gaba in the past (it was by CNP). It helped with sleep but didnt notice particularly good gains whilst using it.

Its banned in the UK now (has been for at least 2 years), which is why its very hard to come by.

Sorry, I didnt actually answer your question did I?

Gamma-Aminobutryic Acid is an amino acid which is believed to have benefits for the nervous system, stimulate the release of growth hormone and improve sleep.

Its also a precursor to GHB (a date rape drug) - which I'm told is why its banned (I cant confirm if that is correct or not though).

is it more of a sleeping aid that a muscle gainer then?

I dont know really. I can only speak from my own experience. Obviously it was marketed as a muscle growth product but I've not seen any studies to demonstrate how effective it was at that. It was certainly a popular product. I dont think it was ever sold or marketed specifically as a sleep aid, although some gaba products did say on the label 'may help promote deeper sleep'.

the way it works is by putting you in a slightly deeper level of REM sleep. As you are in a deeper state of sleep, it (alledgedly) releases more natural HGH, i noticed deeper sleep, felt like I was getting an extra hour or so..

SB is correct, it is from the same family as GHB - infact it is very close, and therefore got banned, shame as it isnt anywhere near as strong/dangerous as GHB...

I think thats a good review of it mate. I found pretty much the same - I slept more soundly and for a little bit longer than usual.

No worries on the pm mate - whenever you have time!
