Re: CELTIC CARNAGE
Alright guys this saturday gone i competed with some of the best british strongman in celtic carnage 2012 and to my amazement came 2nd only 3 points behind uk's strongest man ed hall.
1st event was log press for maximum weight starting at 120kg i did this with ease as i did 130kg and 140kg with a little show boating to entertain the crowd next weight i chose was 150 which was the easiest 150kg i've ever done, the plan was to go for 155kg next to equal my pb but as the 150 went so well i decided 160kg was well within my capabilities, the clean went well but i couldn't get a breath in with the log on my chest and then failed to press it. this left me in 5th position which i was happy with
next up was the super yoke 350kg, yoke is normally a good event for me but in recent weeks i've been a little off with it any way i dropped it after a couple of metres but recovered quickly and got a time of 17 seconds which held my 5th place overall.
next up was the silver dollar deadlift an event i love but i knew there were 7 or 8 really good deadlifters here i've recently hit 400kg in training so i was hoping for a minimum of that. We had to do a starting lift of 260kg and then had 3 lifts of our own to nominate i decided 340kg then 380kg and decided to leave my last nomination to see what others were going for by the time the weight had reached 350kg half of the field were eliminated so i was feeling confident of some good points the 380kg went up really smoothly with little effort so i was confident of a new personal best ed hall (uk's strongest man) opted for 420 as did ross stone with paul carter (4Th place uk's strongest man) going for 400kg i was confident 410kg would go so i opted to play safe after missng out on the log press. The lift went well and i was over the moon with a new pb check out the video i got a bit excited ed hall hit 420kg with ease but ross stone missed it giving me 2nd place which i was delighted with. Next up was 140kg per hand farmers walk after placing 2nd in the deadlift i was 2nd to last out for this so i knew what time i had to beat there were about 6 competitors with times of 10 seconds so i knew i had to be quick after a slow pick up i motored down the course in 9.04 seconds giving me a first place and 2nd overall 2 points behind ed.
Stones are usually a speciality of mine and thought i could pip ed for the win but i rushed off and ended up bouncing the first stone off the platform which lost me valuable seconds and then my tacky went hard due to the cold conditions which meant gripping the stones were really hard i ran out of time an 4 stones which ed did the same but in a faster time.
overall i'm delighted with the performance, and feel i've proved myself to be a man you can compete with the best britian has to offer.
