Re: starting out

I would start by buying and reading "Brawn" by Stuart McRobert. This will give you the fundamentals of strength training and the basic foundation from which you can go on into bodybuilding, powerlifting or strongman.

Diet wise - there is a section on this board. Try and eat a lot of good quality nutrient dense food, - chops, steaks, potatoes, milk, lots of fruit and vegetables plenty of Guniness Extra cold - don't be one of these skinny little fella's with abs all yea around and you'll be grand with that for starters.

Get hold of some strongman DVDs, Svend Carlson and Magnus Samuelson are good for inspiration.

Finally, you do not need to concern yourself with gear/steroids until much much later in the day - my training partner is a lifetime clean athlete, squats 400kgs and can deadlift 300kgs for 13 reps in 90 seconds.
