Box squats

Was toying with my first sets of box squats this week and man are they hard, hard in a good way.
Im going to start puting them in with my regular quads workout.

Anyone else use box squats?

Re: Box squats

Yes intermittently, great power builder at the weakest point of the exercise.

Go careful on the way down though, a lot of people have done all sorts of damage trying to bounce off the box/bench.

Good luck.

Re: Box squats

Almost all Powerlifters do them, and a lot of BB'ers would do well to add them in too, makes sure there is none of these 2 inch ROM reps, and also takes the momentum out at the bottom, putting more stress on the muscles.

Re: Box squats

Ive been concentrating on the eccentric then waiting for a second sat on the bench and then drive up.
No point doing them unless you do em right, ive been powerlifting for years ive just never thought to do them until recently, probobaly because most of the gyms round here dont like you going for stuff like that, i had the manager of virgin tell me to stop deadlifting once, that was it i cancelled my membership that day.

How can a gym tell you to stop deadlifting? It's an exercise ffs. :noidea:

Unless, of course, you were screaming like a banshee & have been forewarned previously - that is a different story

It was one of those gyms where the target members are people who dont actually workout.
Apparently big guys who work out are intimidating.

Ive had the same say that to me, I think instructors know they dont want to scare other gym people. Ive actually asked a lady in the health fitness gym I use to train at if I was banging the weight too much on deadlift and she was like yeah in an angry way, I was ok calm down we are tryna to train properly, not do the crap she was doing.

Stick to where the big boys train, in a proper gym

Re: Box squats

I like box squats, I use the low box that people stand on to spot bench. Its ace like doing bellow parellel squats but you come to a dead stop at the bottom postion. I used to be weak in the hole of the squat but now im much more confident the odd times i do regular squats now.

I dont bounce, just touch and come back - it takes all the wondering about hitting depth out of the equasion.

I think its great for building a good squat up as well. I added maby 40kg to my squat useing box squats.
