Clean and Press

I dont see this so often in my gym so cdnt compare with anybody.

I'm lifting at 100kg presently but find improvement in this exercise slow compared to say deadlift.

What sort of weight would be considered a decent lift ?

Re: Clean and Press

What do you weigh? Are you an OLer or a BBer or strength athlete who happens to use the lift?

To me, anything over 140Kg is mightily impressive, but I'm basing that on my old gym being full of rugger buggers, OLers and strongman types who would use the O lifts regularly. Over the years I've seen a lot of 90-110kg Powercleans and push presses, a few 120kg+ of the same, few 120+Kg full clean and jerks and just a handful of 3 plate + lifts.

Cheers,
G

Thanks G

My Current weight is 95kg, recreational (but dedicated) BBer.
I just love the lift. and as I said, I just don't see it used so often.

Re: Clean and Press

Bodyweight is a good lift for anyone. The bigger your are the harder this is. At your weight 100kgs is a good strong lift.

Some Olympic lifters are just frightening in the speed they generate in this lift, 200kgs for a guy your size is possible with the right training and meds. This is with a full clean and jerk, not the power clean and push press you are more likely doing.

To compare to your deadlift, 300kgs is an acheivable goal for someone your size with the right levers - this is being done by both drugged and clean powerlifters fairly regularly.

Re: Clean and Press

For a strength/power athlete I think form/speed of movement is more important than weight but I think bodyweight is a good achievement.

Re: Clean and Press

Well the strongman seem to go with

Under 105kg your looking at 120kg to be ok, 140kg to competitive, 160kg is world class.

Over 105kg your looking at 140kg to be ok, 160kg to be competitive and 180kg to be world class.

Thats for reps...
