SQUATS?

How should i go about doing my squats?
I mean with regards to how many i should do? and how i should carry them out?, ie: in sets or all at once. I tried them in sets but it becomes a annoyance when trying to get the bar on my shoulders. (shoulders get fatigued also not got the proper rack to sit it on)

I'm currently squat lifting about 49kg and am doing 35 in one go, is this going to build muscle or just damage me?

cheers

Re: SQUATS?

5x5 is good for squats, you really need a squat rack though...

Re: SQUATS?

Mate, find a gym with a squat rack or at the very least a smith machine - the smith's not ideal but better than you're working with in some respects. But yeah, 5x5 is great, I've found.

Re: SQUATS?

35 reps week in, week out isn't progress. You need to make steady progress every week or two to establish that your training is working.

I agree with the other two; 5x5 sounds like the perfect routine for you. Don't go to failure, start at a comfortable weight & add a little bit of weight to the bar each week (even 1.25kg per side) & the results will follow.

Progress is progress, mate.

The only rack you're likely to need for almost all exercises.

Re: SQUATS?

Neverrest try typing "squats and Milk" into Google. It will give you details of an interesting squat routine.

Re: SQUATS?

Well it all depends on what your goals are.
Heavy deep squats at 5 x 5 are proven for strength.

Re: SQUATS?

Yes I agree with you. I think the Squats and Milk thing is a short term thing for a bit of growth.

Ideal for a change now and then

Re: SQUATS?

I love quats, personally i do them once a week, starting with just bar and building up to between 3 and 10 reps depending on previous weeks training i just do one all out set
at that weight ( eg. 8reps to failure with 140kg) then drop weight and do 10 reps to failure. if i have a light week i might do two or three sets with same weight.
I find that if i do much more than this i start to overtrain and stop making steady gains.
works for me
cheers
Rob
