140k At Last

Hi everyone i am new here, my name is pete, i came across this forum at xmas time and found it very intresting, i am 41 years of age, i started training at the age of 24 at a bodyweight of 57k and height is 6ft, my bench was 20k:boohoo:i trained for a further 3 years natural with an increase in bodyweight to 61k and a new bench record of 45k, well not a great increase but i wasent happy, and i think i needed some help from my freinds (if you know what i mean) within 2 months my bodyweight increased to 69k and my bench soured to 70k, there was no looking back i trained untill i was 32 were my bodyweight went to 92k but was never able to bench more than 100k, then unfortunitly dammaged my wrists and had to pack it all in, but was able to start again in march 2007, bodyweight was 79k and bench was just 40k, i changed my training routine, slowly increasing weights each week, dieting well and eating loads of protien, oh yea dont forget my freinds who i see every few months LOL well thats about it guys, the point now is i have reached a goal i have so longed for, my bodyweight is 93k and got 3 reps for 140k last week, i hope i will get 8 reps this week with a slight change to my routine

Re: 140k At Last

Welcome Peter 140kg Bench is a great achievment espacially after going from 40kgs last March, just shows that muscle memory is real.

But going from 4 reps last week to 8 reps this week if natural then I really can't see it TBH, I normally work on 1 extra rep per week and then that's if I have eaten correctly during the day with high good carbs.

But good luck and let us know how you get on.

Re: 140k At Last

well done on reaching 140kg pal, very good achievement.

As for trying to bang out 8 reps.....try it, give it your best go but dont be to disheartened if you dont make it, you've already achieved so much.

Try and stay focused and look to keep the weight at 140kg untill you can comfortably do 6-8 reps.

What is your bf% mate, just out of curiousity?

Re: 140k At Last

Hi just to lt everone know only managed 4 reps with 140 this week could not have got 5 if i wanted to, but thats good enough for me, i dont know what to do now carry on with 140k or drop down a couple of k to get them extra reps out as i can hit 15 -20 reps with 120 or 10 with 130 any opinions, just to let you know that each week i have added one and a quarter k weight each side to my bench and shoulders for past 8 weeks, but did jump from 130 to 140 in 1 week , i couldent wait ijust had to try, i can shoulderpress 100k.
To nobbylou i could not understand your question What is your bf%, sorry to sound stupid, also what is raw bench and shirted bench?

Re: 140k At Last

well done. two weeks at your pb.

possible options for bench are:
1. drop by 5k and go for max reps for a few weeks
2. stick at 140 and try and grind out that 5th rep. then go for 6 etc.
3. using a spotter try static holds at 145k
4. using a spotter try some partials.
5. using a spotter work on the negative part of the press.

keep going. you should alway try to increase in weight reps or both unless you feel ill, injured etc. push yourself but dont overdo it.

let us know how the next bench session goes.
