Re: abbs

Core training is important. I would recommend heavy weighted crunches (try holding a dumbell on your chest) and leg raises as assistance work. Your main core work should come from deadlifts, squats and standing overhead press of course.

Re: abbs

First things first you need to schedule them in and train them like other muscle groups.

I too neglected my abs (Now rectified).

What I do is:

Cable push down crunches
Leg raises on a chin bar or smith machine
Normal sit ups and crunches

I do this twice a week and can already see a difference. Remember that fat levels are key to abs though...............

Re: abbs

my mate, who was mr england reckons he never does abs, as heavy tri's and back do this for him, as well as some of the compound movements...
I do abs once per week, mainly lower leg raises and crunches...

Re: abbs

Train your abs every day that has a 'z' in it.

I never train them directly, it's pointless IMO. They get enough stimulation from core activation during heavy training. If you just train the rectus abdominus, you'll end up with postural problems. The core consists of many muscles (rectus abdominus, TVA, internal & external obliques, pelvic floor, diaphragm to name but a few) so just doing crunches is insufficient, and like I say, IMO unnecessary.

Ab workout exercises http://youtube.com/watch?v=zQi5RAq1C6s

Daily core exercises for health http://youtube.com/watch?v=c7AptpbLKJg

I`m of the opinion that the core/trunk/piller of strength (or whatever you prefer to call it) should be trained directly like any other muscle group as this will also help reduce the need for a weight belt and improve your overall posture and daily health...

Re: abbs

leg lifts - target lower abs, crunches with plates -mid abs, swiss ball crunches - top abs..... i do this twice a week at the end of the workout...you need the core strong for squats, military press etc...
i find that my abs get worked during other excercises as well.
