Did ok but should have done better, played on the side of caution and wanted to get 9 for 9 and best Junior lifter, so squat opened 285, then 305 then 327.5 to break record and did it easy, on reflection now I wish I had gone a 4th squat and gone for 340 as think it was in me but decided to save it for deadlift which ended up being pointless. Bench open 175 thn 182.5 then 190.5 for record again and 190.5 was easy the easiest out of the 3 benches.
Then came the deadlift, opened 280 then jumped to 295 and failed it twice. Stupid really, I now know what the problem was and I think its what caused me probs at the british aswell, the suit I use to deadlift in has come far to tight to deadlift in, last year I was weighting 7kg lighter and used it to deadlift in pulled 305 easy, I'm now 7kg heavier and when I was going to deadlift in it it was so tight I couldn't get down to the bar and had to actually grip the bar and pull myself down to the bar, so as soon as I went to lift the suit and straps pulled me forward and completly off line, my **** came up and the bar was a couple of inches away from my shins. I would have been better of deadlifting in a leotard.
I don't usually use a suit to deadlift in training and a week and a half befroe comp pulled 295 easy and could have done 2 reps with it, never have a problem with my deadlift, so why I didn't realise this eariler I don't know, just ****ing stupid of me.
It was enough to win tho and can now target my 350, 200, 325 for worlds.

excellent, cracking lifts!

i know what you mean about the size of the suit, in conventional lifting it can be a benefit, but as a sumo lifter itll pull you forward. found that out before, i wondered what the fook was happening, and took me ages to narrow it down. but youve hit the nail on the head straight off

what was the comp like in general? good show? i hear craig broke the 400k barrier on the squat?!!!

so what you doin about the strongman then? gonna start some eventing next week?

the show was quite good, unfortunatly many of the ukraniane lifters pulled out, along with mark Gritthis aswell.

There were some good lifters, Craig lifted very well, I think it was 405, 255, 300 and I think Justin did 320 or 325, 180 and 280 or 285 and just missed 301 deadlift.

Dave carter is getting back to form and did 9 for 9 comfortable lifts and did 330, 180, 332.5 with more in the tank and was lifting with pulled pec that was black and blue from benching a week before the comp in training.

All in all a good comp, it was good to catch up with everyone too and most evening were spent sitting in the bar til late talking powerlifting.

Speaking with the irish and it sounds that the worlds is going to be a good comp, expecting lots of lifters, they have 2 monolifts, the venue is in the hotel where most lifters are staying and everything you could need is in walking distance. They say the can get upto 200 spectators for there nationals so they are hoping for a good audience.

Do you still plan to make it? There will be a few 125 lifters I beleive and so I still hope I can make it upto 125, after all craig maybe moving upto 110 so I don't fancy lifting against him just yet!

Unfortunalty my work will not allow me the time off for strongman, I usually have to give about 6 months notice for time off and so now there are a lot of people off over July and so can't give me the time off. Its the main downfall of my job which ****es me off, and hence the reason I book my powerlifting comp leave a year in advance.

2 monolifts? cracking job, makes squatting sooooo much easier lol!!!

christ, D.Carter is a monster isnt he? the chap i train with knew him from like the 70's, and said about this village fete that was organised and there happened to be a feat of strength comp. it was advertised over the tannoy that anyone who could lift the bar (happened to be a deadlift, lol) the fete would donate £50 to the stall that the competitor came from!!!! loads of people tried, didnt shift it (600lb bar) so they shouted out that 2 people at a time could attempt it. Tony was badgering Dave to give it a go and he still wouldnt. in the end i think dave got sick of him goin on about it and gave it a pop. walked upto the bar, and raw with no warmup cracked out 5 reps with the 600lb bar!! lol

big respect to a bloke that can do that!

still planning to make it to limerick, im truly skint at the mo and got another job to help bring in the cash, but should be sorted by then! keeping at the rate you are, youll be struggling to stay in the 125k class, youl be up in the superheavies by the time your 25!!!!

thats a ****er about the strongman, really fancied having a battle! theres about 14 people entered in for this one next month. so a fair sized line up!

so whats the plan for you? are you gonna go for the uk open in september? or save yourself for the worlds?

that sounds a bit like david.

It is a ****er about the strongman but thats my work for you, next year the worlds is inmexico and so I won't be able to afford to go to it so maybe next year I can give the strongman a bash.

I'm glad to hear your still planning to compete in Ireland, I'm sure it will be a good comp and craig, Justin, shaun Davies, Dave Carter and many others will be there lifting and I think Dai plans to do the bench press comp as he's still waiting to get his back sorted out.

The 125 class does apeal to me and hope to make it ok for worlds, I had a chat with a dutch lifter called take, experienced lifter has just come back lifting after a couple of years lay off dueto health problems, he turns 40 but still plans to saty in the open class, so I've put a challege upto him in the 125's. I hope you are there in the 125's too!

My plans now are just to get my raw lifts up as much as possible over summer and just have a session in my suits once every 5 or 6 weeks.

I won't be doing the uk open, I'm away on hol to mexico for 2 weeks in september so it would interupt training for it and I also want to save myself for the worlds.

How about you what's your plans now?

excellent, sounds like a good bunch to travel over with!!

mexico? bit swish aint it? lol a chap from work has won a holiday to go to cancun, lucky bastard. looks lovely.

plans so far is to do the severn valley next month, then thatll lead nicely to the beefs in august. as soon as thats over with then concentrate on PLing and head to swansea for the uk open, then got 8 weeks hard work til ireland. its fallen in such a way, that i see the SV strongman as an 'easy' (well i term it easy, not as heavy is a better description) then the beefs will be tough as fook! the PLing open is then a warmup for ireland and then have a lay off again.

atleast thats the plan! whether it works is another matter

Yep can't wait for the holiday, 2 weeks all inclusive to cancun mexico.
Just eat sleep, drink and rest set me up perfect for the worlds.
Apparently the hotel does have a very good gym aswell, I'm prob try to take two weeks of training to rest when I'm out there but if the gym is fully equiped with heavy free weights I'll be tempted. And we all know also what can easily be purchased over the counter in mexico!

The comps have all fallen nice for you then as you say, a easier SM comp then harder one, then a lower PL comp then the biggy the worlds. I would check the date of the Uk open tho now, I beleive it was planned for mid sept, I think it was about the 17th but I do beleive that it has been changed now to a couple of weeks later to Oct 1st. So it'll only leave 6 weeks between the open and the worlds, so you might not want to go all out at the open if you are going to do the worlds just 6 weeks later. If you were to take a week of after the open and then take the week of training prior to the worlds it would just give you about 4 weeks training inbetween.

It will be a good bunch of lifters to travel over with, its suprising how much you can larn from one another, most nights in vienna where mainly the british and irish team sitting in the bar til late talking powerlifting, so lots of knowlegde and ideas are passed around.
