The lowest cumulative dose of tamoxifen known to have induced retinopathy, an adverse effect which is recognised to be dose-dependent, is 7.7 g (Griffiths, 1987) ---------- Essentially the only issue with tamox is damage to the retinas, which is dose dependant and cumulative - not so likely to effect BBers using 10-20mg / day for 2-6 weeks as opposed to women with breast cancer who will use higher doses sometimes for many months. Secondly, estrogen is not bad per se, you dont want to eliminate it, just control it so as to not suffer adverse side effects. You need SOME estrogen to grow as well as possible, but obviously you dont want so much as to cause any sides. Hence nolvadex is used post cycle, when estrogen levles are likely to be high, and typically only brought in to play during a cycle if symptoms of the onset gyno appear.
