PhilBs run in to Muscle Mayhem and South East

I thought i would jump on the comp prep bandwagon as so much of the info I have read on here has been very motivational and has helped me keep my focus through my contest prep.

I am doing the Muscle Mayhem in Surrey on 11th May and the UKBFF South East on the 18th May, I have been dieting from mid January - it will be 16.5 weeks of dieting to the first show and 17.5 weeks to the 2nd show.

I started my diet at 87Kg and am now weighing in at 77Kg - in the best condition I have ever been in. I have followed religiously James L's advice and my diet has been simple but easy to follow.

I have eaten 300g protein every day through the whole prep and my fats had been 60g daily, my carbs started at 300g a day and have dropped by 25g increments every few weeks to 175g this last week. I have been allowed 1 cheat meal each week which i have stuck to and never missed!

Cardio was in from the start daily - 30mins a day for first couple of weeks and increasing bit by bit each couple of weeks until now where im at 50mins am and 30mins post workout.

I will add a bit more to this later but am now off for a 3pm upper body circuit before i go into work for a 12 hour night shift! - which will be tough - but I only have 2 more shifts to do before my shows as i will be using my holidays to cover the run in period.

I do a full time professional job which can be quite highly pressured and i have always had to find ways to fit my body building and competition prep around my job without adversely affecting my job performance - I hope i can offer some ideas and tips to those who struggle to fit training, dieting and family commitments round a job - or jobs - as it can be done but requires some careful planning at times.

All the best phil

Have you thought about playing round with carbs a little more? rather than the static approach? maybe not the time to think of it but always helpful on the way down

More importnantly what music have you got for your routine?

PhilB is on a distinguished road
Re: PhilBs run in to Muscle Mayhem and South East

Lost Soul - have played with carbs a bit - ie having a lower few days followed by a slightly higher few days here and there - but no not done a carb cycling approach atall.

One theme all the way through the diet has been to keep everything simple - this has included diet, cardio, training, supplements, pharmaceuticals etc.

What I have felt with this approach more than any other time I have dieted is that I have been working with my body rather than fighting against it - James advocated eating a lot more carbs than I have ever dieted on before - as a result i have been mentally much more "alive" all the way through the prep - also I have had better workouts in the gym as i have had more glycogen.

The flip side is i have had to invest more time doing cardio right from week 1 - but i havent minded cos instead of spending most of my waking hours lethargic and like a zombie i have felt really good.

Pro - I have to do the open class at Muscle Mayhem which isnt ideal as who knows who might turn up!! If nothing else though it will be great experience to get back on stage after 18 months - and will also give James a chance to see how I respond to his carb up protocol. At the South East I will be doing the middle weights under 80Kg class.

As for the posing music - well thats top secret!! It will either look really cool - or more cheesy than a cheese sandwich!! LOL.

Currently on my first break of my 12 hour night shift - feel suprisingly good and rattling through my planned work for tonight - which is good!

First day of half carbs tommorow - which wont be nice but I only have a 6 hour shift to do tommorow as I am making hours back up later in the week when im full of carbs and will be brimming with mental and physical energy!!
