review of personal training with tiny tom

hi guys, i was lucky enough to have a personal training session with Tom Blackman a couple of weeks ago and found it so useful i think it deserves a review for all too see. I've write it in this section because of toms proffesional attitude and it's inspiration for me.

After arranging via e-mail with tom me and my training partner arrived at our meeting point around 10:45, funny enough we met tom at a KFC. (Wonder why eh?) I've seen tom compete and in the magazines but to meet him in the flesh gave me a real appreciation of how big he really is. I was also surprised at how well spoken and polite a man of such stature could have. I know never judge a book by it's cover but everyone has a first impression. He gave us a pre-workout drink to sip on as we followed his car to the other side of Bristol.

We arrived at pro-lab gym raring to go, i wonder what was in that drink?? we had arranged to hit chest as i felt it was my weakest point and felt it needed some improvements.

What follows is the routine that day, i'm not going to give away any of Toms secrets but hope it gives you some insight.

Incline D/B Press 2xwarm up 1xmedium 1xall out failure
D/B Flye 1xwarm up 1xfailure
Low pulley cable crossover 3x12-15
Barbell Negative press 3x4-6
Incline hammer press 2xfailure

My chest was batterd, we concluded the session with a 30mins consultation regarding training, nutrition etc.. which was very valuable. Since putting together tom advice i have gained 4lbsin 2 wks (thanx tom)

I'll conclude by saying i found the session very enjoyable though hard, Tom is a real gentleman who knows his stuff and if anyone gets the oppurtunity to train with tom take it (free publicity there tom) I will be working hard on my weakpoints over the next couple of months till my next session with him. It really was value for money.

In a sport were everyone seems to know best, i think it's important we listen to people and continue to learn more about the science of bodybuilding. We have some very wise people on this site and i thankyou all for youre contributions especially the moderators who do such a great job.

Till next time keep growing and i wish everyone the best of luck with there quest for massivness!!! ha ha matt:lift:

Thanks for those kind words Matt.

Glad you've made some improvements since your session, I always worry people are going to say that they've got jack from training with me!!

Keep it up mate - you've got an excellent base to build on.

I would love to workout with tom or PScarb or DB or any number of guys here, if I ever get the chance.
Although I would not look fwd to it as I think they would batter me on purpose

I bet I would have the time of my life visiting the UK.

No unc, it is where you lower the weight down by yourself and then blast it up.
This is an old powerlifting trick.

Another thing that works well and is known for powerlifting is pauses, this is where you bring the weight down to your chest just before it touches and hold it for a couple or few seconds then push it up.
You seriously have to use far less weight but this will give you strength at the bottom of the lift where you need to generate most of the speed with the bar.
Those are also good for shocking the muscle.

I think that's a forced negative unc mate, if someone is forcing it down and you try to control it....

LOL, I though that was how you did flat bench all the time!

Another thing that works well and is known for powerlifting is pauses, this is where you bring the weight down to your chest just before it touches and hold it for a couple or few seconds then push it up.

Do this too!
