Right side rotator cuff injury

I have an injury in my rotator which I have lived with for years and now has flared up quite bad.

Thought I'd keep a progress report here for further reference for others.

The injury is in the front delt and I have no movement other than a small amount of elevation.

also no resistance strength on a downward push so probably a tendon injury maybe sustained in my jiu-jitsu years.

So I saw the consultant on Monday had an MRI and X-Ray on Tuesday and its flared up again on Thursday so now I am on strong anti inflammatory until the results come back.

Cant tell you how depressing this is for me especially with everything else recently, not to be able to train is one of the worst things in my life but I am determined to get well again.

Anyway look at these tabs I got today for the anti inflammatory.

I know Im a bit weird but really.........

Re: Right side rotator cuff injury

I'm sorry to hear that m8,,,,

I went to the docs after a shulder injury 2 weeks ago after heavy bench press, luckily not rotator cuff but slight tear to the tendon, 3-4 weeks no weights :(

So for me it has been cardio, cardio and training abs and legs...

I have been doing small amount of rehab work on shoulders which has helped..

I hope it all turns out well for you, keep your head up, I know it's bloody depressing.....

I think now would be a good time for Tom and I to settle some old scores via a good old fashioned arm wrestle....

Hi Tom

Sorry to hear about your shoulder troubles.

Just wondering if you had tried pentosan injections? I know a couple of powerlifters who swear by the stuff for this type of injury.

Re: Right side rotator cuff injury

PunkFloyd - Im seeing the consultant again on Wed 23 so I'll see what he suggests then. I really hope there's something that can be done as Im only young and dont really want to have to rely on anti inflammatories to continue my bbing.

I odnt know why its gotten so bad recently but obvioulsy a signal for a rest.

Re: Right side rotator cuff injury

Hi Tom,

Not sure if pentosan is something that your consultant would recommend as i've only ever seen it in verinary form (however that's not to say that there isn't another brand designed for humans)

What's interesting about this product is that it doesn't just have anti-inflammatory properties, but is purported to actually assists the healing process. I found this:

"Pentosan 100 Injection. Anti-inflammatory and stimulant of cartilage synthesis, repair and protection (100 mg/mL)"

" Pentosan polysulfate sodium possesses anti-inflammatory, anti-arthritic and chondroprotective properties. These beneficial effects arise from direct anti-inflammatory activity; inhibition of neutrophil migration into joints; stimulation of hyaluronic acid synthesis by synovial fibroblasts which results in a marked increase in synovial fluid volume and viscosity; stimulation of chondrocytes, and the biosynthesis of proteoglycans; and a strong fibrinolytic activity which improves the circulation in subchondral bone and periarticular structures.

Pentosan 100 is a semi-synthetic polysaccharide polymer which possesses anti-inflammatory, anti-arthritic and chondroprotective properties. "

Iver never used this compound myself so i cant honestly comment how effective it is first hand, but like i said i do know a couple of lifters who consider it very effective, and it's not one of these things you have to take for the rest of your days either.

Ive also read some of Brian Batcheldor's writing and he seems to be an advocate of it as well if that means anything.

Let me know how you get on mate.

Re: Right side rotator cuff injury

Know how your'e feeling, got tendonitis in both AC joints due to calification, doc started me off the NSAID's, got gut pain though, and didn't work well, etc, etc.
Had 6 corticosteroid inj's, works for a couple of mths, can't have anymore, so eventually got to see the surgeon, said there's only a 50/50 chance of success, and 12-16wks off training, sod that, so at the mo still living with the pain.
Hope you have better luck than me Tom.
