| How Bout a Nice Cup of SHUT THE FCUK UP | Unsure what ive damaged Ive a pain in my left shoulder, if i do any pressing movement where my elbows are pulled right back, like dumbell bench press, shoulder press, flies it hurts like hell, trained very light for a couple of weeks and it doesnt feel any better..however I can do flat bench with a narrower grip without pain, i can do dumbell front raises with no pain whatsoever and i can do dumbell side raises with no pain except a slight twinge as i get to the very top of the movement, slightly above parallell with the ground. What have i damaged? I cant work out wether the pain is comming from my side delt or my front but it feels as though it extends partially down the tendon onto my arm. I reiterate the pain occurs whenever my left shoulder is at full stretch. |

Probably best to hear it from someone more clued up on shoulders than myself tho! Is it achey or sore outside the gym if so describe the pain! | |

| How Bout a Nice Cup of SHUT THE FCUK UP | Re: Unsure what ive damaged After a bit of searching on here, ive found Flat Bench is a culprit of RC injuries, well funnily enough ive switched off inclined dumbells onto flat bench recently..bugger! funny thing is tho, as long as i keep a narrower grip on flat bench it doesnt hurt, yet if i try inclined dumbell bench press it hurts like hell! |

I was very strongly advised by the physiotherapist at the hospital against any training of the shoulders. i ended up just doing more squats and deads....

Basically the front delts are much stronger than the rear due to concentrating on training the mirror muscles and neglecting rear delts and upper back etc. I was guilty of this when i first started out and have subsequently suffered the consequences of tendonitis/impingement. |

| How Bout a Nice Cup of SHUT THE FCUK UP | Re: Unsure what ive damaged Just an update.... Saw my Physio friend after an hour of diagnosis he pointed ot i had injured my Supspinatus muscle and also my left scapula was winging. He gave me some RC exercises and also mentioned my shoulders had a very poor range of movement. I think this injury is related to the fact that my front delts are over powering my rear delts and pulling my shoulders forward as i feel very hunched forward. Ive also realised i do very little upper back exercises, yes i train rear delts but looking in the mirror my left rear delt isnt as large ar my right-- in fact my whole left shoulder isnt as big as my right shoulder. I tried to do Chins last week for the first time ever, could only do 5...i couldnt complrehend why i could only do 5 yet my Lats are one of my strongest muscle groups-- i can low pulley row almost the entire stack which i dont see anyone else in the gym doing anywhere near. so in summary i think this injury has been brought on my overpowering front delts and lack of upperback development. |

If there is some displacement of the scapula it may also point to a degree of AC joint separation. Don't want to worry you further though at this stage, just wondered what 'winging' was.

| How Bout a Nice Cup of SHUT THE FCUK UP | Re: Unsure what ive damaged http://www.sportsinjuryclinic.net/cy...ed_scapula.htm He had my press against a wall and while my right scapula stayed flush to my body while i lowered myself--my left one flared or winged straight out. He wasnt sure wether it was the cause of the shoulder injury or the other way round. Can you offer any advice? |

It is possible that the winged scapula was the initial problem & the rotator cuff strain is a secondary injury brought on by the body's trick mechanisms which will utilise other muscles (usually weaker synergists) to compensate if another one is incapacitated for whatever reason. It's a chicken & egg situation but the treatment is the same & needs to address both problems. You will need to have both issues treated or the problem will just keep rearing it's head. I might even advise a visit to a chiropractor if cost permits just in case there is a nerve impingement in the spine which is at the root of the problem.

| How Bout a Nice Cup of SHUT THE FCUK UP | Re: Unsure what ive damaged ah, I am currently doing the following RC exercises: http://www.sport-fitness-advisor.com...exercises.html and for my Serratus Anterior i assume Dumbell Pullovers are a good exercise? Is this how i should proceed for now and see if it rectifies the issue? Thanks for your input so far. |
