Re: Please help guys!

Not sure why you would see a Chiropractor for this kind of problem. Rest for starters, then avoid anything behind the head or up right rows in the long term. They murder my left shoulder so I simply don't do them. How do you sleep? On your shoulder or with your shoulder raised?

A Physio should give you some rehabilitation exercises to do and from there some strengthening exercises. Rest and maybe a sling for a couple of days will help the healing - it did for me.

Re: Please help guys!

I would definitely see a physio to establish which muscle you have injured, its probably the supraspinatus as this is by far the most easily damaged due to pushing movements.

As IK has said, agood physio will give you a selection of rehab exercises that can be performed in the gym or at home.

Unfortunately the best cure for this type of injury is rest and patience, however there are things that can be done to speed this up.

Supplement with Glucosamine and fish oils, apply ibuprofen gel to the site morning and night and at every available opportunity apply a heat source to encourage blood flow(i used a microwavable wheat bag)

As for the cortisone, this can be effective but it all depends on the severity of the damage to the muscle/tendon as it will reduce inflammation and pain but will not repair a tear or similar.

IMO cortisone tends to mask the injury and put you in a false sense of security that the injury is rectified and training can resume.

Re: Please help guys!

went to the chiropractor as they can help with shoulder problems (at the start i had no idea what was wrong). I may try the physio next! Ill never do another upright row or flat bench again for the sake of my rotator cuff's. Mate rehab is out the question, its too uncomfortable. I have had almost 6 weeks solid rest, no exercise and the shoulder is no better, in fact its more painfull.

I fall asleep in a good position, its just so easy to roll on the left shoulder in the sleep and then wake up because of it.

I am so annoyed. What about cortisone injections?

Re: Please help guys!

Yeah, I'd expect some relief after 6 weeks without a doubt. My shoulder problem is constantly there, but as long as I train around it it's usually fine. I do some resistance band work from time to time. I suspect mine is a slight dislocation - sometimes Chiropractors can "reset" the join where they basically pop it back in.

Go back to your GP - if it hasn't gone after this kind of time there is likely to be a more serious problem, although it's odd there is loss of ROM.

Re: Please help guys!

Whats ROM? My problem is that my old man is a GP and I ask him for advice / help, its usefull but at the same time like all doc's his solution is stop training. He is so sceptical of chiroprators and phisiotherapists! I have not had a shoulder problem for about 5 years and I did consider them to be very strong and stable. I perhaps need to see my actual GP (for the first time) and get a proper assessment.

No probs, just 1 Q does your shoulder feel warm/hot, not to the touch, but is the pain like a fire in there.

Re: Please help guys!

No the pain is not fire like, its more of a constant all over ache. It is sometimes locally sore in and around the supraspinatus and infraspinatus rotator cuff muscles (back two) which i think is where the damage is. But how can these muscles be damaged if i have lost no strength or movement?

I believe the muscles you mention keep the shoulder in place so to speak,
its obviously more complicated than that but thats why you havent lost strength. My gp wouldnt give me any more inj after the 5th due to the fact that corticosteroids will weaken those three muscles, and cause more calcification making the problem worse.I think your only course of action now is to get it Xrayed and or scanned. As there's no heat then you are prob lucky that you dont have my probs, IE calcification of the AC joint causing severe tendonitis, in both both bloody shoulders, damn. Any how, good luck and hope you get back on the road to recovery asap.

Re: Please help guys!

6 weeks is a good rest and i would expect slight improvement, however my shoulder took about 8 months to fully recover.

In that time i honestly thought i would be stuck with the pain for the rest of my life,i could not even lie on the affected side for the first couple of months and any form of movement was very painful.

dru,you will be surprised what a good sports physio can do for you,it wont be cheap but book yourself in asap and get the treatment started.

Re: Please help guys!

This is getting silly now. After seeing a physio I was told that I had no RT cuff damage but that my cuff muscles were weak because i used the big muscles (chest, delts and traps) when I should be using my RT cuff muscles??? Did the rehab work as suggested and shoulder felt slightly better, did some simple weight training last week and the pain is straight back! I now have a dull ache (same as almost three months ago) all day which is very depressing. I really can't see how the problem could be to do with the rotator-cuff muscles. Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be? Im seein a GP on friday. cheers
