Shoulder Injury

Right, My Shoulders been playing up for about 2 years now, i've been to about 4 physio's but with a combination of my lazyness and what I believe to be incorrect advice, its never got better. I've had enough now so i'm determined to sort it out.

Now to the problem, its my left shoulder area.

Its a hard one to describe, sat here it doesn't hurt just feels uncomfetable(sp) and there was never a specific time to when it started hurting it just gradually got worse after a chest session, as I said before about 2 years ago and i've not really trained since, and when I have its just made it worse again.

Sleeping on my left side causes it to hurt alot, and it doesn't just affect the shoulder, I quite often have a complete dead arm pains in my chest, neck and crampings right down my back.

Stretching my neck to the right causes it to hurt, but then the pains just in my neck and trap/shoulder.

If I use it it can Ache straight away or it'll be alright but just hurt alot a few days later.

Other than that it quite often just starts achin if im sat poorly like watchin the TV in the pub when you need to have your head turned to the side for a long period.

Feel Free to ask me questions about it and i'll let you know

Any help would be greatly apreshated as I really just want to start training again!!!

One last thing its started clicking all the time now, like if you move your arm up over your head and round the back, it WILL click everytime when going behind the head and back down to the side of my body!

Hope this makes sence,

Cheers,
Benj

Re: Shoulder Injury

Sounds a little messy. I think you need to go back to a physio and stick with what they are telling you to do. I'd also be tempted to try a chiropractor. I had a dodgy left shoulder which caused me pain when raised to the front. Physio did very little for me, but after having the joint reset and adjusted by a chiro the pain went which in turn allowed me to build the muscles up again.
I'd been even more tempted given that the pain appears to run into your neck and spine.

Also - do you sleep on a hard mattress? My dad had a similar problem with a dead arm and it was due to his mattress cutting off circulation to his shoulder/arm.

Re: Shoulder Injury

Hi mate, you seem to have more or less the same problem as me! iv had a bad shoulder for about a year and half. Im in exactly the same position where ive been bounced from physio to physio with every one of them having a different opinion and trying different treatments with no improvement! Iam currently seeing a hospital physio who seems to think my injury was caused by a muscle inbalance because my lower back was/is not as developed as my upper back (not sure how this is as it was an impact injury whilst playing rugby.) but this could be a probable cause in your case. Anyway my physio has refered me to a surgeon as she thinks something maybe ripped. My advice would be to go to you GP and have them refer you to a hospital physio and have the physio refer you to a surgeon.

As you can probly tell im no expert and can only tell you of what i have done and been told.

Hopefully some other guys may have more of an idea than me.

Tom.

Re: Shoulder Injury

Go to your GP and get a referral to a Surgeon, you dont have to go through a physio.

Could be a number of things but as I have always said here to great critiscism, flat bench is a shoulder wrecker and I bet it was doing that that wrecked yours.

As such it is likely rotator cuff injury, involving a ligament, likely sub-scapularis. You appear to have a sternocleidomastiod problem also, but that may be from 'carrying' the poorly shoulder.

It may need deep 'friction' massage to correct, Ultrasound possibly, cortizone injection or at worst an op.

Impossible to help further without an MRI. so go see your GP ASAP!

Re: Shoulder Injury

I had a rotator cuff injury from flat bench, but to be honest, I just persevered and worked through it and it went after 3-4 months....It is something that I do suffer from tho' especially on bench and shoulder press....

Gp can't refer you to a surgeon??? complete and utter nonsense, GP's are the only referall route to an Orthopaedic Consultant outside A&E.

Glad you are getting sorted.
