![]() ![]() ![]() | Injury Advice - Rotator Cuff !!! WILL A CYCLE HELP ME GET THROUGH THIS. Thanks for the advice btw regarding the deca/sus test-e etc.... really helped. Can't wait to get it started just waiting for it too arrive. But i have one problem (INJURY) How it happend & note sure when to start the cycle to push through: I was lifting the GF back in Nov (a friday) pratting abt she's only abt 8st so nothing much but lifted her infront of me with straight arms and felt a twinge in my left shoulder so I put her down fairly quickly. Then on the monday went to the gym and was doing fine on flat & incline when a when i started to get a serious sharpe pain in my left shoulder/socket but just tried to ignore it and push through then it really hurt to the point of making me light headed & feel ill. So just stopped training Went home and straight to sleep but was up all nite in pain, woke up in morn & my shoulder was all swolen, went hospitalt the next day x-rays and nothing wrong but still so much pain. Then to doc's a week later and been refered for physio been doing that for 3-4 weeks now and it's 75% beta but still hurts when doing combined movements & MRI scan is about 2 months away. SH1TY NHS !!!!! Why the hell do we pay TAX. Basically was wondering if i can get into a cycle and will the encourage the recovery or do i still need to wait and get 100% beta before i can start or is there anything i can do to speed up recovery ? :( |

Depending on the degree of the strain, it could respond to physio treatment, or may need surgery. Do not try to ignore the pain. Rotator cuff problems rarely sort themselves out. Get to a reputable physio asap.

![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Injury Advice - Rotator Cuff !!! I was worried I wud hear that. feel like sh1t now :( My physio is on the NHS but looking at going private for the MRI but it's just the expense at the moe, got most of my cash tied up and it dont look like i'm getting it back for a while. The physio has helped to be honest.... feels alot beta just sometimes get slight pains if i cross my arms or anything with a slight forward movement. Looked at private but they want abt £200.00 just for an appointment to be assesed & £400.00 for the scan. BTW Done no uppper body training sice November so have been resting it lots was in a sling for 4 weeks too. |

Me & my wife have HSA cover so chiro & physio is taken care of in case we need it quickly as she is an international masters track athlete & trains more than me. Might be worth looking into a health plan, as we know the NHS is a bit hit & miss & very slow with what they consider non emergency treatment.

![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Injury Advice - Rotator Cuff !!! Yeah def looking to do that, but still a cash flow situation at the moe..... but does anyone know of any Private Plans that cover past injuries ? Thats gonna be the big problem, and I tell you what if you don't have cover it's def worth looking into. Because NHS is the slowest ever :( Is there anything else I can do in the meantime..... or do i just have to wait for the MRI scan ? |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Injury Advice - Rotator Cuff !!! 90% of all rotator problems will sort them selves out with rest if they are not torn and you dont keep re-injuring them. There are great rotator exercises that I would totally think you should consider. It is done with very light weight to not target the primary muscles, you want to target the secondary muscles. Your problem could even be related to your chest and front delts over powering your rear delts and rhomboids. If it is a tear, then forget it, surgery would be required. I would do nothing at this point that aggrivates it what so ever.

![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Injury Advice - Rotator Cuff !!! Cheers Scott.... U made me feel alot beta, lets hope i'm in that 90% Thats the only stuff i've been doing is shoulder exercises to help rebuild the supporting muscles around the damaged area. Do about 7 different exercised with a therma band thing they gave me, but the bloody thing snapped the other nite... so need to get a new one. But been doing light weights too 3 sets @ 20 reps Bicep curls, flys, tricep work using the band thing etc..... been doing that for a while and does feel 80% better, sometimes but when I do something simple like hang my coat up above head height is when it hurts, but thats abt it. And i bet the only way to tell if it's torn is with an MRI scan :( |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Injury Advice - Rotator Cuff !!! Nice thing a bout the rotator is if it is not torn completly which would require surgery, you should recover just fine with a layoff. Once the healing starts light exercises using inner and outer rotation exercises will help to strengthen the supporting muscles in the shoulder. One reason why they give you the bands is to target the secondary muscles, I see a classic example of doing rotator exercises wrong when using too much weight, this bypasses the secondary muscles and works primary muscles which bypass the rotator all together. by all means do the exercises but anything that hurts your shoulder regardless of what it is compromises recovery.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Injury Advice - Rotator Cuff !!! I waited 6-12months for an MRI scan on the NHS. Spoke to a few Private healthcare companies ...........none take on pre-existing injuries. If your serious about your training get the MRI done Private and then at least your NHS surgeon can get things moving quicker. It took me 2 1/2 years on the NHS to get keyhole surgery - currently my 10th week since op. No contact sports for 6 months and weight training is a 'no-no' for at least the first 3-4months. In total its prob been 3 years since I busted my shoulder. Good luck bud. p.s. (your looking about 3 1/2 grand to get the op done private) |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Injury Advice - Rotator Cuff !!! If it was a full rotator tear, you will know it quick. Think of connective tissue fibers and muscle as kind of a rope, several fibers attach, some of them can pull away, but this will rebuild in time as long as there isnt something aggrivating it preventing the healing process. But a full tear, you are screwed, better to fix right now just like all tears than have the muscle atrophy and scar tissue develop. My buddy tore his bicep after groosly over training that. He did tons of bicep curls, went to the batting cages and then did a bunch of games bowling. It tore when he was bowling. I think it was like 3-4 weeks before they could re-attach it, in the mean time the muscle shortened and it was reattaching some where else (not the home position). The doc had to cut the bicep away form its new location to put it back. Anyway mate, I am willing to bet money that you will be just fine given a rest. You can always do the exercises to maintain rotator integrity. I can show you a couple that will fix ya up in a hurry.

![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Injury Advice - Rotator Cuff !!! I'm sure it's not that bad.... otherwise I figure I wouldnt be able to do half the exercisses below. But I bloody agravated it yesterday again though well pi*ssed me off. What exercises do you know that would help a speedy recovery then ? Great if you could let me know. See below these are the ones i'm doing at the moment. All are 20 reps @ 3 sets and none agravate it. I'm Using therma band for: 1. Wrap the band over my chin up bar - Tricep Extentions 2. Round the door handle & stand @ 90 Deg, then pull from stomach out. 3. Same as above but from stretch out & pull in towards the stomach. 4. Just loop round door handle once & face the door & pull arms in towards my sides (keeping arms straights at all times) 5. Same as above but with arms bent. Using free weights: Only 5kgs 6. Flys or lateral raised thumbs on top of bar up to shoulder height. 7. Straight forward bicep curls. Thanks for the advice so far Scott.... |
