Pre Workout Shake

Guys,

I need your advise on a pre workout shake as I am getting conflicting opinions.

My current pre-workout shake consists of:

50g whey protein
25g maltodextrin
5g glutamine
5g creatine

I take this 30 minutes before I train with reflex amino acids. However some people say the protein in this shake is not benefitting myself as it will be used for energy. Others say they want the protein in their system ready to repair your muscles asap.

What you reckon?

Re: Pre Workout Shake

i have protein in it. but i have it more like 45mins-1hour before a workout. then i take some multi-vit/mineral supps straight after it.

in my opinion it doesn't matter whether or not it is wasted as energy or used for immediate repair of muscles, if i'm right then i'm helping my muscles repair quicker, if i'm wrong them it's doing me no harm and it's giving me extra energy to work harder.

Re: Pre Workout Shake

u could use a pre work out drink like pro nox, has creatine in it and gives u a good pump whilst trainning, save the protein shake for after trainning

Re: Pre Workout Shake

I usually have some pro-peptide 1 hour before workout with some amino acids. Drink My Protein Pulse throughout the workout which is like no-xplode for energy and pumps.

For PWO

Whey Isolate
Waxy Maze Startch / Corn Flour
BCAA
CCE

Re: Pre Workout Shake

Surely the protein wont be getting used for energy as long as you have some carbs or fats already in your system ?

Protein is only used for energy when there is no fat or carbs in the body, which is usually during starvation.

Re: Pre Workout Shake

I read that creatine and glutamine compete for receptors, so it was best to take them at seperate times

Re: Pre Workout Shake

Interesting topic, my breakfast is also my pre- workout, peanut butter on toast with protein creatine and egg whites with milk. I don't put any malto in there because i am not really wanting the protein to be absorbed that fast like i would post WO. I would say that slow release protein would be fine pre WO.
