Water Temp for Protein Shakes?

What is the best temperature to take a protein shake. Does hot/boiling water mess with the formula/protein in some way?

Re: Water Temp for Protein Shakes?

I heard 8-13 degrees is the best (who actually measures their cold water lol?) but running the cold water til it actually goes cold will be adequate mate!

Re: Water Temp for Protein Shakes?

you don't want it to pass through too quickly.. you need to absorb all the nutrients.

Re: Water Temp for Protein Shakes?

Too hot will denature the protein so go to luke warm at most if you want to keep the protein content optimal.

Re: Water Temp for Protein Shakes?

Anything above 37degrees celcius denatures (changes the shape) of the amino acids - making it useless.

Thats a fact.

But, it leads me to a question!! Why dont chicken breasts, steak etc lost their amino acid profile when cooked?!

Re: Water Temp for Protein Shakes?

i bought a 5lb tub for one of my clients a few weeks ago and she did something similar, but added a shot of amaretto to it to make a 'nice evening drink'. took a while convincing her that this wasnt quite the idea!

Re: Water Temp for Protein Shakes?

Hmmm, when I drink my protein shake I want it to taste like it's doing me good - generally mine was mixed with cold milk.

Why would you use water into a protein MILKshake instead of milk?
(sorry if this is a stupid Q)! Do some powders incorporate milk powder!?

Re: Water Temp for Protein Shakes?

I mix it with room temp water, i.e mineral water that is left out of the fridge. If you use water which is too cold, your body is gonna have to warm it up before it can use it.....also it doesn't mix as well cold IMO

Dont know what brand your using but iv never had a protein MILKshake!

They are protein powders - you can mix with milk or water. Unless your wanting to delay absorption then your meant to mix it with water.

Id guess your using whey protein...after a workout? Well, if you are, your defeating the object of it being whey (a fast acting protein).;)
