Multipower bottled shakes

You all know that the big chain gyms out there like the fitness first, LA fitness and Bannantynes all stock these bottled multipower casein based protein shakes for the ridiculous price of £2.50 -£3.00. Are these actualy any good? The nutritional infomation on the bottle along with the price make me run a mile but i see plenty of serious bodybuilders drink them all the time and i never understand why.... i guess they just taste that damn good. They often have about 50 - 70 grams of carbs per 500ml bottle and since the main ingrediant is skimmed milk it must all be simple sugars? Surly these are more bad than good? Does anyone use them?

Re: Multipower bottled shakes

loads of members are going to jump on this thread.

I personally would not touch casin drinks until late at night (oats and casin at 21.00 hrs thats me).

Unless the drinks contain quick acting whey I do not know why they would be drinking them. Not sure of the ingredients, maybe there is something else in them, dunno?

Delhi
you would be shocked how many competing BB's are not " informed " and will take any old ****e the gym sells .. there is alot of money to be made selling cheap protein and sugar for big margins trust me .. It annoys the hell out of me as well try to sell a quality product at a decent price you are really up against it with the big gyms coz they don't care ..and the customers don't know any different

bodi - what you are saying is knowledge is power!! in more ways than one.

You would think that if someone called themselves a bodybuilder then they would on the ball with regards nutrition!!

you would think that but its not always the case , we have sponsees that have needed serious help with Nutrition , they would take anything the gym sold eat dirty etc etc ,, but were lucky with genetics .. they got in reasonable shape and competed but did't start winning until we got at em ..

you would be shocked at the ignorance on the street in many cases ,stil shocks me

Re: Multipower bottled shakes

Fair play to you mate but things are changing. Internet forums are spreading knowledge at an incredable rate.

You have to also accept that you as a seller / distributor can and should do more to educate the masses.

I have numerous young guys ask me about nutrition and protien EVERY single day, sure they all know / have heard of the big brands (And initially trust them), but as soon as they speak to a "Real" bodybuilder (Me LOL) they quickly change thier attitude to protien. This is because I am real (Not a magazine) and they relate to real life guys over pictures.................if only more companies like yourself could capitalise on this sort of selling power. We would all be better off.

hi Delhi
we do !! we have an advice line and give alot of advice to people which includes writing diets and routines for people , we obviously advise our supplements but do not suggest excessive use other than what is neccessary unlike some !! we also sell programs from a Professional Nutritionist and trainer online for those who want to hand held over a period .. I think you absolutly right its about time the supplement industry put something back into eduaction rather than selling products to folks who have no idea in what context to use them and thus waste their money .. We also have a vibrant forum which advises people too

The industry is changing slowly

Re: Multipower bottled shakes

Bodi and Del,

I agree the industry may be changing, albeit slowly, but there are still a lot of rogue companies out their that employ fancy packaging and advertising to sell their goods which are over inflated milk and sugar which is aimed at users at the lower end of knowlege spectrum.

There is no incentive for them to inform these types of people because it would ultimately mean less profit. It is very refreshing to hear Bodi speak the way he does and I must admit their stuff is spot on. However, some companies will have you beleive that their protien, weight gainers etc are all you need to be Mr O.

Tell me about it ... For example we have put alot of thought into our gainer it has low GL carbs and quality proteins and is not cheap to make .. When selling to some retailers and gyms they buy another certain brand of gainer that is basically 18% Protein and the rest is sugar .. it is half the price to make than hours ..

I repeatedly get the comment .. "We don't care about the ingredients it needs to be x Price .. and anyway 90% of our customers will never get results anyway so who cares if they get fat "

That is an acutal quote from a gym and shop owner ..

It is very hard to come into the market and stay in business with a qualty product ..thats why there is soo much crap on the market .. its much easier to make money that way ..

We won't do it .. and are building a cult following and slowly getting accepted . But it would be alot easier to sell sugar and skim milk powder and make a fast buck :(

When I forget my own PWO Drink (Whey, Oats, WMS) I will drink one of these as that's the best my gym sells pre-mixed. I have to admit that the Vanila one is the best tasting shake I have ever had.

Re: Multipower bottled shakes

All said and done there are other good companys similar to yourself out there (Extreme for example).

What seems to mystify me is these un-informed will actually accept buying a lower quality product at a higher price.
Because they make the association that because it is more expensive and well known "It must be the best". TBH some of the marketing hype out there is disgacefull and its getting worse. I just seen one well known brand advertise a 550% increase in muscle mass FFS.

I am a trained statician and I have vast experience of pharmaceutical practise, I can assure you these clinical trails are VERY, VERY dubious to say the least. If they stood up to any sort of credability the FDA would approve them. But they dont, the FDA mearley allow them to be sold as a dietry supplement. TRUST ME when I say the FDA would class them as drugs (And most likley ban them) if they gave that sort of gain.

I would love to set-up a real clinical study with all the big brands Vs the smaller independants to find and publish the truth.

I like the banana flavour, but only buy one as a last resort.
