Relying on whey
Is consuming say, 150g of protein from whey, comparable to eating the same amount of protein through food-sources such as meats?

Re: Relying on whey
Nope, whey protein shakes are a supplement mate, they are not supposed to replace meat and pulses or other food protein sources. You get alot more from food type protein sources, the whey is good don't get me wrong and will deffo help in reaching your goals especially straight after a workout but I wouldn't ever compare it to food protein. Hope that helps buddy.

Relying on whey
What about milk protein rather then whey. Its a slower digesting powder so its more like a meal
Add some oats and evoo and you got yourself a very slow trickle of protein going in you.
I take 200mg a day from milk protein and only have whey on pwo shakes
I think one of the reason people say you cant drink loads of whey is because its very fast absorbing so fast it cannot give you all the nutients like a meal
That's where milk protein comes in

Re: Relying on whey
It depends on the quality of protein , if its heat treated (most are) then its not as good , non heat treated protein is more bio available , on my phone but check Wikipedia to confirm .
there is no point in being alive if you cannot do the deadlift .

Re: Relying on whey
op are you asking coz your just wondering or are you a vegan or vegetarian, i mean i personally would never substitute meat and other whole food protein sources for just whey/casein or any other kind of protein in shake form but that just me. as other members have posted there are people that do but that may be down to dietary/religious reasons. but i would always recommend using whey as a supplement only and always have your meat/fish/pulses and other whole food protein sources.
p.s. eggs are great especially for breakie.

Re: Relying on whey
whey is a whole protein, so there no probs relying on it 100%..
I"d be F**King hungry relying solely on whey.... but no issue with building muscle- reason is "whole" foods have nothing that whey doesn't from an amino acid perspective.
Of course I like read meat for the heme iron it supplies, and it appeals to my inner cave man...
That being said, there are plenty of pansy waisted poofs who are semi vegeterian and rely on whey for their protein, but still have decent physiques..
I'm straight though... oh wait, is that another thread?

Re: Relying on whey
Like others said whole food has got its advantages. But at the end of the day if you're not going to eat a whole food based meal, why not have a protein shake? At the end of the day it's all about hitting those numbers. Getting your macros right. Just have a good multi vitamin also.
If I cba eating one meal, I usually just have a whey shake, mix it with some fats. (this happens very rarely though)

Re: Relying on whey
If you wanted to then why not?
Obviously you would need to ensure your diet is in check in other aspects as many meats and protein sources provide more than just the actual protein itself but it is a food source and makes no difference.
I can find myself having anywhere from 1-10 servings of whey in a day depending on conviniance and or meals. I will often have food and protein in the same sitting to bump the protein content so a tin of tuna with a sweepotato and a whey shake.
