Possibly an exertion headache caused by straining, however they usually subside after a few hours. Were you properly hydrated? Have painkillers helped? Either way, a trip to your Gp woudn't do any harm, get the Bp checked.

![]() ![]() | Re: neck/head Thanks for the reply guys, Para... i was sufficiently hydrated, i think that ive sprained or pulled the little muscle that runs up the back of the neck to the skull... i spoke to a freind and doctor over the phone and he suggested that its most likely a burst blood vessel or a strain..either way rest seems the only solution... ill take a good week or two off i think. I went to the hospital today and i could only c a nurse who simply prescribed some pain killers....joy of joys. Anyways...thanks for your thoughts and i think ill be making a few more posts again....ive missed the forum. C u all around. |

![]() | Re: neck/head hey conrad: I had a same sort of strain type injury doing a leg workout a couple of years back. Was my own fault as was due to not breathing properly and exhaling while pushing through the lift. I'd got in the habit of holding breath throughout all heavy lifting. At the time if felt like I'd burst an artery in my neck just below/behind my right ear. When it happened I was crouching on the gym floor with hand to neck in some serious pain, and I knew full well something wasn't right. When it happened it just felt like an explosion in my neck. Of course when you go to the Doc and try to explain what happened they just sort of chuckle and don't really take it seriously - so typical of a GP - and just rubbish the whole thing; "here you go son, take these and you'll be right as rain in no time" ... condescending, right wing, tw*t. But listen up, after weeks of serious pain and lots of prescription codeine I ending up back in the docs and politely demanded they find out what the problem was. After a scan it turned out I'd caused rupture to tubes leading to my ear: it wasn't life threatening but it was screwing up the quality of day to day work, living, etc. (although the codeine was a party in itself). The pain didn't fully subside until 10 months or so after the accident. Any heavy gym sessions or any stress at work and it felt like my jugular was popping out of my neck! You mentioned that you went to the hospital "....and i could only c a nurse who simply prescribed some pain killers...." (quelle surprise) Unless your a hypochondriac, that says to me the pain and distress must have been severe enough for you to feel like you needed hospital attention. Get yourself back to the Docs and tell them bl**dy straight (without being aggressive obviously) that your not happy. Politely tell them that your not sleeping properly and are paranoid that its something more serious and that you want it dealt with. Think about it. You probably never have to visit the docs as you are, most likely, in good shape and in comparison to the rest of the population, are taking steps to improve your long term health. That fact alone, you would think, deserves you get quality service and attention (what of the overfed, slothenly, 20 stoners making there weekly doctors visit, and putting pressure on the national service... huh ????!) With any luck you'll be one of the population that will be spending less time in later life visiting a doctors surgery as you're taking steps now to stay healthy. (sometimes I don't think GP's take that into account) Im not knocking the NHS as I think it is a good service. just my 2c 's rant. |

| Bulking! | Re: neck/head I had the same thing a few weeks ago when using the preacher curl, I went to the doctors this morning due to picking a bug up from Egypt and whilst I was there I asked my GP, he said that it was probably my posture and was saying that the preacher curl is more for toning muscles and not bulking them as it locks your body in a way to isolate your biceps (therefore shouldn't use exessive weight) I just left the gym alone for a good few days and really concentrated on proper hydration and my breathing when at the gym and all seems to be well, still not 100% sure of what has fixed it tho... |
